The heart is a lonely hunter whose aim is made steadier by rigorous training with Welsh bowmen and no less than three glasses of merlot. Aim for the arbor with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of wine and a wine tasting for two (a $22 total value) at The Wine Mine in Oakland.
A low-key venue that encourages the exploration of new libations, The Wine Mine's Temescal warehouse is loaded with reasonably priced, handpicked wines and staffed by knowledgeable employees who help patrons discover the perfect fermented-fruit snack for any occasion. Noteworthy wines include Klinker Brick's 2007 Old Vine zinfandel ($15), Mohua's 2009 sauvignon blanc—a New Zealand imbibable with notes of pear and melon ($11)—and Chasing Lions, the same Californian merlot that John Henry Patterson swilled while slaying the Tsavo maneaters ($10). Today's deal also includes tickets for two to one of The Wine Mine's drop-in wine tastings ($1 each), which allow vinous visitors to sample at least five different wines every Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
