Fencing camp is suitable for all levels and ages. Depending on their skills, children may learn the basics of this sport or improve their technique while being guided by world-class coaches.
Fencing is thrilling, fast paced and FUN! It is often referred to as physical chess, combining strategic thinking with rigorous physical training. It develops balance, cognitive skills, coordination and focus. Fencing fosters skills that go well beyond sport; fencers learn to think well, act quickly and good at making decisions under pressure. About the instructors:
- Khariton Zazhitskiy is a former member of the Estonia and Soviet Union National Fencing Teams from 1982 to 1993. He has been coaching at Woodlands since 2008.
- Georgi Zazitski competed in Olympic and World Championship teams and received the title World Champion in 1969 as well as Olympic bronze medal in 1972. He was the head coach at the Bergen Fencing Club in Norway.
- Samuel Freiman won the bronze medal at Junior Olympics.
- Summer Phillips started fencing at Woodlands when she was 8. She is a competitive fencer and a US Division 1A finalist.
