Wine was once such an expensive commodity that the rich conspicuously spilled it on their golden capes instead of wasting it invisibly in their stomachs. Afford enough wine to braggadociously spill it with today's Groupon: for $30, you get $60 to use toward two bottles of wine at Yorkshire Wines & Spirits, located on the Upper East Side in Manhattan. This deal allows you to choose from a list of 17 different wines, which can be found in the sidebar to the right.
Yorkshire Wines & Spirits is a full-service shop stocked with a vast selection of fine wines procured from all nine continents. The passionate and exceedingly helpful staffers are placed throughout the store like eager chess pieces ready to aid in the strategic selection of fermented nectar. The Chiarello Zinfandel 2005 ($29.99) is a robust red wine sprinkled with notes of plums, berries, cocoa, and even licorice, and it pairs handsomely with grilled meats or spicy dishes. Dry conversations can be transformed with the help of a dry wine, such as the Artesa Reserve 2005 ($29.99), a crisp, silky red with complex flavors of cherries, minerals, sage, a touch of rage, tea, and more. The dark and rich Nicholas Cole Cellars Camille 2002 ($39.99) can be enjoyed now or saved in the cellar until 2023, when it's old enough to drink itself.
Whether used to practice swilling techniques or to take the edge off before revealing to your parents that you're a superhero and you'd like to move out, two bottles of wine can be enjoyed by oenophiles and novices alike. Wines are subject to availability.
Must be at least 21 years old.
Reviews
Yorkshire Wines & Spirits has limited reviews, but the five Yelpers who do post their opinions give it a perfect five-star average rating:
- Penurious oenophiles rejoice, YWS is your new mecca!! This wine shop extraordinaire offers a wonderful variety or hand picked wines (some great Californian) with the staff to back up the choices. Unlike many liquor stores who also have wine, this is a real wine shop (with spirits.) – Furyk C.
