Q&A with Michael Raphael, Therapist and Business Manager
What are some of your most popular services? What do you think clients love them so much?
Clients love our deep-tissue massage because we go deeper than most therapists, we include stretching, and we guide you, in a tranquil voice, to take long deep breaths and use the incredible power of your mind to relax your body. In this way, the session is like a guided-meditation [session] in which you become a more active participant in your own therapy. Some clients who have suffered for years with chronic pain are amazed by the relief they get from neuromuscular realignment, which analyzes your musculoskeletal imbalances and stretches the core muscles that are pulling your body out of alignment.
What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?
We are literally a mom-and-pop operation. [Roxanne and I have been] married for 19 years and are both licensed massage therapists. Roxanne is also a licensed skincare specialist, and [I am] also a certified personal trainer and Qigong teacher.
How did you get started in the beauty industry? Did you have an "ah-ha" moment in life?
It started back in 2006, when [I] got laid off from [my] cubicle job and decided to get into a manual-labor career. Having always had a natural talent for massage, [I] returned to school and became licensed, initially in Dallas, Texas. Roxanne later went to massage school and became licensed in 2008. [We] moved to Miami and got Florida licenses in 2011.
