Don't stay here! Extended Stay America Mid-town Downtown Anchorage, AK. I'd give them a minus point, but I didn't die there, so I'll award 1 star for that reason. Before explaining why I needed to rate this way, I'll tell you the bottom line. Avoid ESA if you can, especially if you are looking to stay for a long-term stay. You can find better quality and better deals with other options, such as the "Furnish Finder app," or go with a short-term apartment. As a travel nurse, I've had the unfortunate experience of staying in multiple ESAs, including AK, CA, and OR. I experienced different problems and challenges in each EAS, but the front desk person doing laundry (washing towels for their guest) is universal. ESA's advertisement makes people think that their hotel is for professionals and that they provide professional services. However, based on my experience, that wasn't the case. The comment below is about Midtown, Anchorage, AK only. The parking lot was unkept; people had to park atop uneven-thick snow and ice. And the parking lot was full of dog feces. Countless ESA guests would stand around and smoke cigarettes and spit out phlegm right in front of the entrance. The chairs and the hallways were filthy- see my pictures of the chair in my room and the Dolly. I didn't bother to drink their free coffee or continental breakfast. I moved to the downtown branch on March 15. See my comment on their site.

Horrid Hotel This Extended Stay deserves 0 stars. Hotel needs to be condemned. The room was so filthy that I couldn't bring myself to unpack my suitcase. I checked out an hour after checking in. Sat in the room amazed that they would assign a room in such poor condition to a guest checking in for 5 days. I was there on business and was looking for a location where I could walk to the office. It was very unsafe with the type of individuals loitering around, and the front desk person said it was not a good idea for females to walk alone in the area. Hallways were filthy, and room furniture all needed to be placed in a dumpster. I was on the first floor, and someone appeared at the window looking into my room as I sat there looking for where I would relocate. I was traumatized by the experience and believe that the Dept of Health needs to pay this hotel a visit. My credit card was charged for 5 nights even though I was there for 1 hour. The front desk person was the sweetest individual. Not her fault but this hotel should be boarded up until it passes inspection. Food on the floor, bugs, blood spot, kitchen cabinets full of food or bugs or something. The bedding is not clean. Stay away. Extended stay needs to refund the almost $1300 that was charged to my credit card for 5-night stay. I plan to contact the Extended Stay Corporate Headquarters, the BBB and the Dept of Health.

Fumes…from the building attempting to neutralize meth and fentanyl. Yikes. Things were pretty sketchy, but we made it work until today. We woke up to a horrible, noxious smell. Kind of like WD40, formaldehyde, and diesel. We inquired at the front desk and were told a room was being “treated.” The fumes continued into the evening, so we went down again and were told this time that they were painting for the rest of the month. The fumes are bad enough to cause headaches and tightness in our chests. There is no way this is safe. Update: the front desk this morning shared that the fumes were from attempts to neutralize meth and “a little bit of fentanyl.” If I could give zero stars, I would. Do not stay here.

Great stay except for upper management was very unprofessional and inappropriate The only problem I really had was with the general manager or the manager who is in charge of all the Extended Stays in Ak. I walked up to the front desk and was talking to the manager of the midtown location. I guess he thought I had but into a conversation that he wasn’t even in. I think they were talking about rooms that needed things fixed in them. I was staying in a handicapped room. The window did not lock and a few other things weren’t working. It was on the first floor. So I had told the manager about it. I was just informing him about that room since they were talking about other work needing to be done. This Ak Manager was so rude to me. He was mad cause he said I butted in to a conversation. Told me if you want to complain go somewhere was. I was so shocked and disgusted at how ugly and nasty he was being. When I didn’t do anything wrong. I was so shocked I was speechless. He think the manager I was talking to couldn’t believe his boss was acting. He was so disrespectful and told me if you don’t like it you leave. Real nice to speak to a guest like that for absolutely no reason. This manager needs to be retrained or put in another position. That’s the only problem I had with my stay
