The good and bad The good: Beautiful architecture Good sized room for 3 people Breakfast room staff very friendly The bad: One of the beds was a pull-out with basically very little cushion. I rotated with my daughter over our 6 night stay. My take is the hotel should offer a lower rate for the 3rd person when they can only offer a pretend bed Inconsistent housekeeping, either no toilet paper or shower floor towel or tissue paper and generally poor attitude if we weren’t ready for the housekeeper to enter our room Front desk and too bad I didn’t get his name but he is bald. I asked for a bandage one day and he just kind of tossed it as opposed to just handing it to me. Reason I will not come back or recommend to anyone: When we arrived we were given an extra small room, shocking really for 3 people, but my wife called and Tibby advised a mistake had been made and we were given a bigger room but it was facing the street. For one I can’t help feeling the front desk was trying to get away with something. The amount of noise coming from the street and alley with groups of homeless directly opposite the front door was endless, I didn’t normally fall asleep until well past 2 am which should not be anyones idea of a relaxing vacation.

Not deserving of a 4 star This hotel apparently enjoys a 4 star rating which in my opinion is undeserved by reason of its location, staff & accommodations. Its location is just off Ramblas. We were told we had a “room with a view”. However, the view was the street below (seedy) & a dilapidated building directly across. Several pieces of furniture in the room appeared to be glued to the floor, the shower/tub combination was extremely slippery with no available mat & the shower leaked. Communication with the staff was difficult. While I understand there may be a linguistic barrier when traveling internationally, the same should be addressed by any entity (hotel) that welcomes international travelers. I should mention that the lady at the reception counter ( I believe Julia) did her best to assist as did the servers on the rooftop bar. On departure, we requested that the hotel confirm a transfer to the airport ( as they had done for our arrival). However, they would not provide the same & advised that we must secure our own transfer. On the evening before our departure, I received an email from the hotel offering to confirm a transfer-I had already done so. While I am not one to complain or be dismissive, I would feel remiss if I did not express my personal opinion.

Great Hotel for a City Break Asked travel agent for a central hotel and they booked Hotel Espana. Found it to be central, rooms were clean and tiday and staff were very helpful and friendly. Would definately recomend this hotel for a City Break stay. There is a rooftop bar and entertainment but this all settled down around midnight

Location, Location, Location This hotel is located right behind the Liceu Opera House, about 100 meters off La Rambla. It's just far enough from the action to be relatively quiet at night, but you can be on La Rambla (and the Liceu metro station) in 3 minutes walk. Cross La Rambla and your in the Old City, easy walk to most of the most popular landmarks, turn right on La Rambla for a 10 minute walk and you're at the waterfront. The hotel itself is an old building, upgraded but a little worn. Rooms are small, but everything is very clean and the entire staff is absolutely top drawer. I would recommend including breakfast in your room rate (the buffet is very good, and hot dishes prepared-to-order are included). Would also recommend asking for a courtyard-facing room in the interest of quiet nights. Everyone we met was friendly, helpful, and efficient.

Comfortable hotel in close proximity to restaurants and shopping. We stayed at this hotel last year enroute to a cruise. It is located just off of Las Ramblas which makes it close to restaurants and shopping. It is an older hotel, but the rooms are excellent, clean, quiet and quite comfortable. It was very hot outside (36 Celsius) while we were there and the air conditioning in the room was working perfectly. Our check-in and check-out was extremely smooth and had absolutely no issues. The front desk staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. There is a restaurant on site but we did not avail of it.
