Not five star and poor staff attitude So disappointed. We booked this hotel as a treat for my girlfriend's birthday at the end of our holiday in Cornwall. Sadly it did not live up to my expectations for five star hotel. The room wasn't ready when we arrived, first of all. We were advised that it would be 30mins before it was ready. No offer made to store our luggage. We had to ask reception if this was available. When we went to collect our keys and bags, the receptionist said that she couldn't find our booking. Eventually we got our keys, but I have to say that every member of staff we encountered was miserable and we were not made to feel welcome at all. Then came the issue with our room. It was absolutely boiling hot and the Aircon did nothing. When we came home from our evening out, it hadn't got any cooler, so I called reception and they immediately said that they'd bring a fan up. It was almost as if they'd encountered this issue before _ when the members of staff came to our room, she didn't have a clue if the window could be opened, despite us asking if it was possible. She then said that she'd return with another fan and an offer of a possible move to another room. No call came and no apology at breakfast. No one seems to communicate with each other. The breakfast staff should've known about our issues during the night. Finally, I do feel that when you're staying at a five star hotel and paying £258 a night, breakfast should be included. The breakfast we paid for wasn't worth the £18 by any stretch of the imagination. We ended up leaving without checking out, as we don't feel that we could offer any, if none had been offered to ourselves.

Stunning building in stunning grounds Positives: Easy to find. Plentiful free parking. Beautiful gardens/grounds. Truly gorgeous old building. We stayed in one of the Imperial suites so was a huge space, great bed and very clean room, with a another separate TV lounge area and a fabulous modern bathroom with a roll-top bath & separate shower cubicle with his/her basins. Air-con in both rooms. Nespresso coffee machine & tea making facilities. Impressive restaurant and friendly helpful waiters particularly one gentleman but I’ve forgotten his name. Happy to set up a table outside in the sunshine for breakfast. It’s a very dog friendly hotel ( We didn’t have a dog with us but many guests did) Spa facilities are very good, I had a wonderful mini facial with Tini who knew her stuff. There is an indoor pool and heated outdoor pool with sunbeds which was fabulous as we were very lucky with the weather! 10 minutes lovely stroll into beautiful Bath Centre. Negatives: One of the younger reception staff was not as helpful as the others & information had to be prised out of her ( perhaps she was new?) Some gridded edges of the indoor swimming pool are black/green with mould growth which was very off-putting. We had to wait 1 hour for our evening meal after ordering - not a big deal but something to be aware of at busy times. Overall I would definitely recommend this Hotel. It’s very beautiful.

Nice hotel Very nice hotel but with a few issues. We booked the deluxe room with the garden view which also overlooks the city, the room was clean and nicely presented but tired in a few areas. Parking is a bit of a walk when carrying luggage, there are a couple of disabled spaces in the valet parking area which is closer but we only found this out when I spoke to the concierge. On the first night we just wanted a light meal and a drink but they had a wedding and some sort of team building exercise booked in and had run short of a few bottled beers and ham for sandwiches, we made some different choices and had a reasonable but very expensive meal. At breakfast on the first day the cooked option was served at the table but we had to ask for our tea and coffee four times before it arrived, after we had finished our meal. The next day it was a buffet option and seemed to run a lot smoother. The Spa area was good with a large outdoor jacuzzi that was very nice.

Nice rooms, quiet hotel, however poor service and children allowed in pool 6hrs a day! We booked this hotel based on the fact it was a 'spa hotel'. We couldn't see anywhere on the website a mention of 'children swim times' so we naturally assumed we could have a nice relaxing adult spa break. However, they have two swim sessions amounting to 6hours of children in the indoor pool! Luckily it was a sunny day so when the young children arrived in the afternoon, we were able to retreat outside. Very disappointing though as a spa hotel should be somewhere to relax! Our room was very nice indeed, modern, spacious with aircon. Regards to the service we received from the staff both at reception and at breakfast this was very disappointing for a 5 star hotel. More importantly was the let down at breakfast. We each asked to have an item from the kitchen off the fresh cooked menu. On the first attempt both plates were not our orders, then on the second attempt, both meals were stone cold!! On the third attempt the bacon was hardly cooked. The staff weren't very apologetic. We may return but during the week when there hopefully are no children and definitely go elsewhere for breakfast .
