Berkeley Inn

Worst motel I have ever stayed at in my entire life! Stay away from this place! When I booked this, I checked out photos, reviews, and even used google earth to checkout the neighborhood... it looked like a cute neighborhood and for $130 a night, we thought we had found a great deal. WRONG!!! The only furniture was two plastic folding chairs and a plastic table with burn marks all over it. There wasn't a dead bolt or even a chain for the door. Vagrants loitering in the parking lot, the drapes were shredded, your feet stuck to the horrible tile floor, no lamp (just one bare hanging light bulb in the room), and the bathroom was disgusting. It was after midnight so we slept for a couple of hours in our clothes, because we were afraid to touch anything and then headed to Lake Tahoe as soon as the sun rose. This place is filthy and unsafe. If I could give them 0 stars I would have.

Disgusting condition Brown water droplets and dead bugs on the walls in the bathroom. Dirty walls. Sticky floor covered with dirt and hair. Hairs found in the bed, and in stained, folded towels. Microwave rusted completely through. People smoking weed in the parking lot during the day, and in the stairwell at night. Manager says that he cannot control what people do on his property. Also agreed that my complaints were valid and that the room was unacceptable, but refused to give even a partial refund (booked 3 nights, only stayed 1) since booking was not directly with the hotel. The best stay over in Berkeley Close to University Avenue and the freeway, it's quiet and cleaner than most inn's. Motel 6 use to be my go to place but the light they use to leave on is out and don't provide cups for instance. The Berkeley Inn provides what's needed and has a better shower than most...a little tricky but you remember to pull down the mouth of the shower head to get a hard stream of water. The owners are helpful and friendly. it's an old and small parking area but just ease out into traffic and your on your way to dinner, a Cal football game, reunion or visiting friends.

horrible place I would not stay at this place again!!!!! I did not feel safe at this hotel. My room was on the third floor. There are wirers hanging from the ceiling where the smoke alarm should have been, no screen on the window (a child could have fallen out the window), the air unit was taped up with red tape, an outlet was broken (a child could have put their finger in the outlet) and then no peep hole. You can look right inside the room from the outside. I felt very violated. I heard doors slamming through out the night. While in the parking lot getting my stuff, two women were walking around dressed half naked. I told the office person about the peep hold and he said that he already knows about it. Did not care that you can look right into the room. Not a good place for kids at all.

Affordable in a brilliant location The rooms are very "average", but realistically have everything you need. Hotel is in a great location near excellent food options, stocked corner-stores and a couple great neighborhood pubs. Convenient access to NBerkeley BART (<5min walk) and busses on San Pablo & University.
