Classic but fresh vibes. 10 out of 10. We were visiting for a Christmas party and the hotel was the best. The classic style you'd often find in other hotels normally comes with a feeling of neglect, but that is certainly not the case here. The decorations and vibe of the place were on point and everything felt both "old school classy" and clean and upkept at the same time. Friendly staff and the furthest thing you'd find from a chain hotel. 10 out of 10.

Fabulous wedding weekend! Hosted many of my wedding guests at this hotel this past weekend. Excellent service, beautiful lobby, just the right amount of traffic to make it feel like a vibrant hotel without it being too crowded. My son and fiance had the executive suite, I took a regular suite and the rest of my family and friends regular rooms. Everyone was complimentary of their rooms, service and ambiance of the hotel. The location near the Christmas market and shopping were a huge bonus!

New management isn't up to par We've been going to the Townsend for years. Front desk and bellman were good, but the food and beverage manager was rude. We had repeat problems with room service. There are issues with the new online system and the staff blame the guests. Not well trained and understaffed. The bathroom lighting is cheap and floursecent, not what you'd expect at this level of hotel. The small toiletries in the room weren't new. I sent a long message about very frustrating issues with our stay and heard nothing from management. We'll stay somewhere else next time in Birmingham.

Gotta stay here when in Detroit The location in relation to walking around for shopping, meals and entertainment was amazing. The staff from check-in to check-out, concierge, sales and bell stand were first class. We spent the Thanksgiving Holiday in Birmingham and we were not disappointed! We felt so comfortable and the decorations were warming and cozy.

Disappointed Wow. As a local, having been sending guests to the Townsend for years. Put parents up for the holiday in a $400 a nite room, which was poorly serviced on arrival and facing a parking garage. Heat malfunctioned on a very cold night, and crews were in the room for an hour servicing. Very kind, but major inconvenience at price point. Called front desk and was told they wouldn’t even comp breakfast as a courtesy, and was talked down to. Will book the Daxton next time.
