Simply the BEST! Montage Palmetto Bluff has quickly become a favorite for our family. Beautiful location, wonderful food and accommodations, but the customer service outstanding. Relaxing vacation for our family. We will be back.

Under the radar Gem My wife and I stayed four nights at the Montage and would highly recommend it. We are Canadian and did not know too much about it heading into the trip, but what a great time we had. First class service, great restaurants, pool options and a fantastic spa. It's a great place to relax - whether with family or with a significant other. We will definitely return!
Would highly recommend this place!

Best Experience Ever Truly a one of a kind experience. I didn't know what to expect other than what has been said online. This place did not disappoint. The attention to detail from arrival to departure was top notch. Everyone was so friendly. polite, and helpful. We will absolutely be visiting again!

Beautiful weekend. Such a lovely time at Montage! We were there over the 4th of July and it is definitely a family destination for the holiday! We will be back with our family! The lodging in the cottages is superb with nice bake paths and options for boating, fishing, etc. Though we went for our anniversary, we still enjoyed the property in every way, with the plus of it being a happy holiday time.

Uneven Experience: Luxury Location, Difficult Communication & Inconsistent Value We traveled as a family of 2 adults & 2 kids. As others have said, the location is beautiful (alligators, grey herons, dolphins visible from our front door!), we loved our cottage by the river (our pet loved the screened in porch), biking around the property and our boat trip with Captain Boo from Outside Palmetto Bluff was truly fantastic. The onsite concierge was lovely and gave great recommendations, especially Carmella. Pool was nice (small property, so we never had trouble finding a chair) and we loved the in-room shower sauna. The front desk, housekeeping, bell/valet staff were friendly and helpful, especially Shy (sp?).
The pre-arrival "Experience Planning" concierge team needs better training. Emails went unanswered for 48 hours until I called and left a voicemail, SO many mistakes (sending blank schedules or schedules with confirmed events for dates when we weren't there), random notifications from OpenTable confirming incorrect times and no response when I called/emailed to correct.I finally called the onsite concierge the day before arrival and Carmella sorted everything out. Then the printed schedule we received upon checkin was wrong (and Carmella sorted it out...again). Even so, we showed up to an event and the team couldn't initially find our reservation, then when they finally found it, blamed a system glitch (by that point, I was really tired of apologies and "system glitches"). If you know there are glitches, why are you not going through the plans with a fine-toothed comb to ensure it is correct?
Finding descriptions of activities was a challenge--in theory, you can play tennis and ride horses, but there's no description of services or prices. I requested it from the Experience Planners, and they sent me informative links with pretty pictures and "you can do XYZ at Palmetto Bluff"....but no list of services. It ended up being a blessing in disguise--such a hassle to work with that team.
River House was pricy but wonderful--easily the best meal we had on the trip. Great location, friendly service, AWESOME scallops and beautiful plating. We also really liked the sandwiches we found at Rt's, the pizza at the the Fire Truck and Buffalo's was good food.
We attended two Montage events--a BBQ and a Pancake breakfast. Neither was worth the cost. Pancakes was a continental buffet similar to complimentary breakfast at lower end hotels. BBQ was pulled pork/brisket/chicken with fries, slaw and pies for dessert--would have been nice if there had been sides my kids would eat since the fries weren't fresh (corn on the cob, watermelon, popsicles, ice cream sundae). Activities were great!--face painting, cotton candy machine, caricatures, inflatable water slide--but were open to all hotel guests, not just folks who had paid for the event, so the event cost was actually only for the food. I definitely felt like I'd "been had": Dry BBQ, fries, 2 hot dogs, pie and lemonade cost about the same as the gourmet, made to order, plated meal + a bottle of wine at River House. The value was not there.
Our cottage was clearly clean, but a cottage by the river in the South will have more bugs, so the facilities team needs to be more aggressive with their pest control. I stepped on a mostly dead roach one morning (ew! it wasn't there when I went to sleep) and killed 2 more.
We ultimately had a really good vacation, but it took a LOT of effort on my part and given the price point, that shouldn't happen. Things I booked went perfectly, and things the experience planners booked needed multiple touches to initiate/correct. I also frequently felt like I was being squeezed for an extra dollar--lots of upselling with limited value. The luxury price should be for the experience, so if it doesn't live up to expectations, the price isn't worth it. This was a 3.5 or 4 star experience with 5 star prices. I'd go back, but I wouldn't do any hotel events and would make my own reservations.
