Relaxing The cabins were clean. The bed was comfortable. The view is amazing. We enjoyed riding bikes on the path. The sunset was beautiful. We walked along the river and put our feet in. We enjoyed dinner there at the restaurant with a view of the river.

Not the place as advertised on their website It is not what you see on the pictures on their website. The front entryway greets you with filthy cobwebs. Inside is clean and the room was acceptable but carpet was dirty. Restaurant did not have a dinner menu as described on their website. Dinner was the same as the lunch menu because they could not use their ovens in the kitchen as it would make the ding area too hot. Riverfront furnace was uncomfortable and full of filthy cobwebs. Picnic tabletops were badly warped and needed to be replaced. It appears to be a place that had once seen its day in the sun but has not been kept up. Front desk personnel were less than welcoming. Really can’t see how anyone could give this place 4+ stars. We would not recommend staying at this location.

Drive by fast Filthiest hotel I've ever been in. Food on the floor, spider webs inside, broken fridge, greasy smears all over the headboards, green dirty pool, broken sauna. Staff being obnoxious in the pool, rude front desk manager when we tried to fix the problem.

Wonderful Surprise This facility was a wonderful surprise!! The large clean rooms had comfy beds and the exterior is surrounded by beautiful scenery. This is our new halfway point to the coast. We enjoyed walking along the river with our beagle among the wild geese. The on site restaurant serves a good variety.

Racism, Pool Floaters & Bugs For Dinner | Vacationers Beware! Where do I even start. For over $200 a night I was expecting so much more from this place! The pictures are gorgeous, it looks so picturesque. There were glowing reviews boasting about the amazing features of this Lodge. But our experience was so far from that... I can't tell you what to do but I'd strongly suggest reading some of the bad reviews before booking. My family member and I rolled into the parking lot after a 9+ hour travel day from out of state. We were excited for a relaxing evening at a fancier-than-we'd-normally-go-for-accommodation-experience before a long day of travel the next day. Check in went smoothly and we were ready to head in. Upon entering the room, we were immediately taken aback by how it looked like any other lower level hotel or motel. Cheap looking furniture, neatly made (but older looking) beds, and a slightly dingy red wall with chipping paint. Besides some new furniture it didn't look like the place has been updated in quite some time. We accepted that where we were staying had a more rustic feel to it, but this wasn't rustic it was just outdated. It was hard to overlook the musty and sweet smell we were greeted with. My family member noted it smelled like furniture polish but nothing had visibly been polished. We quickly adjusted our expectations and opened the blinds. The beautiful view of the sun slowly setting over the river was obstructed by smears of bird poop and a dirt covered window that hadn't been cleaned in quite some time. Still, it was a lovely view. We tried to open the windows to attempt to air out the smell but they wouldn't budge at all. Finally with a lot of force one opened slightly, and about three minutes later we had both windows open enough (about half way) to let fresh air in. That satisfaction was short lived when we looked up to see cob/spider webs lining the entire top of the window. The window sill was also caked in dirt and the track was filled with dead bugs and debris. Thankfully there were no spiders in or on the window, but it's certainly not something you want to see. As a family member went to start hauling luggage inside, I took a look around and observed that all the surfaces were dusty. Side table, nightstand, dresser, and desk. It looked like the room had gone unused for a long time. I took off the sheets and checked for bed bugs. Thankfully clean sheets, and no bed bugs but I did notice that both headboards were smeared with a visible greasy substance. I opened up the nightstand to chuck a few belongings in and was greeted by a hair and some dirt. Feeling icked out I immediately went over to the kitchenette, closet, and bathroom to take a look around. The closet door handle was broken and the closet would not open at all. Admitting defeat I threw some of our belongings by the desk. The kitchenette area was pretty clean enough but we discovered later on once putting our food into the fridge, that it didn't work. It would've been nice to have known that before our food spoiled as we did bring along a cooler which could've prevented our $50 worth of brand new food from going bad. The bathroom was dated and in dire need of an update. Looked like an 80's style motel bathroom with the moulding falling off and dirty. The toilet was clean but the handle looked unclean with wear marks on it. In the shower the body wash and shampoo had dirty pumps. The shower was slow to drain with water pooling in the tub. Thankfully there was a bar of soap wrapped in plastic which we felt good about using. After thoroughly Lysol wiping the room, my family member and I threw on our swim suits to head out. On our way to the pool we stopped at the front desk and explained our situation (the unclean room) and the young front desk attendant took note of the experience in her computer, and then after about 1 minute of silent typing, said she would pass along the information to her Manager tomorrow, when she was back on shift. Accepting the fact that we would be staying in the dirty room, we headed off for a swim. When we arrived at the pool there were three teenage girls sitting in the hot tub (something to note is that it is small so they took most of it) and they were blasting rap music pretty loudly. They looked pretty content and we didn't want to impede their space so decided to go for a swim in the pool but when we walked over to it to take a closer look we noticed right away it was a green colour with debris on the bottom. The debris was brown and long shaped. I thought it could be leaves from fallen trees but when looking around I did not see any trees so I really don't know what it was. Regardless, it was gross. I dipped my toes in but didn't feel comfortable going further. It did not smell of chlorine or any other pool chemicals and that was also a massive red flag for me. My family member and I decided to take a walk over to the sauna to check it out. When we got to it, the room was dark and we couldn't find a light anywhere. There were no instructions on use of the sauna and the controls appeared to be under a locked plastic box, so, not wanting to spend energy figuring it out, we carried on and headed back to the hot tub. The hot tub was lukewarm and filthy. You could see dirt particles and hairs on the surface. My family member and I got in despite this, figuring we would take a really good shower afterwards. The three teen girls were still there listening to their rap music so we sat on the stairs. A couple of the songs they listened to had loud racial slurs (Full N slurs) and it was pretty uncomfortable to say the least. It didn't really bother my family member or I too much, but we took note that a mom and her small child were nearby. After asking the girl who owned the speaker to turn it down a little bit so we could hear our conversations between one another, we struck up conversation with her. She was actually quite nice and shared with us that she happens to work at the River Lodge as kitchen staff, and knows the owners of the Lodge. Although she was lovely, it is super unprofessional behaviour. As we were passing by then front desk on our way back to the room, the young front desk receptionist called out "Room 124? I've been calling you trying to contact you" so we awkwardly headed over to the front desk in our bathing suits and she told us that she was going to upgrade us! We were thankful and asked for more details, and she told us it was a "king riverview", meaning our exact room but with a king bed instead. We had booked a riverview with two double beds for disability accessibility purposes, and ultimately this "upgrade" felt like a significant downgrade. We declined the offer knowing that we needed to prioritize sleep for our long trip ahead the following day. We thoroughly lysol wiped the room and used our own bedding as a precaution. After we had showered and got ready for bed, my family member and I decided to take a dusk walk along the river path. It was a beautiful evening but as soon as we stepped outside we noticed the mass amounts of bugs. Big black clouds of them were swirling around any light source. I have never seen so many bugs in my life. This is absolutely something that needs to be disclaimed somewhere on the Lodge's website or social media. The grass was not moving from the wind but from the thousands of bugs in it. In fact there were so many bugs they were getting in my nose and running into my glasses. Now, this might be an obvious experience for people who live along the river but it absolutely is not knowledge that people from out of town have. Needless to say we went back inside. Inside we could hear the pang of dozens of bugs running into the window. A little later on, after our dinner of granola bars and melted peanut butter M&Ms because the bar had closed and our food was spoiled from the broken fridge, we decided to go out on another walk. It seemed like the bugs had calmed down a bit. We got outside and walked a few feet before hearing a loud growl. Low and behold a big ol' cane corso was snarling at us and showing us his pearly whites. Nope nope nope. The owner didn't appear to have too much over the dog and you don't mess with a cane corso we turned around and headed back to bed. At checkout, my family member brought up the issues we faced in an attempt to come to a solution. Gladys at the front desk was rude and basically shrugged her shoulders, telling us there was nothing she could do. We had a 12+ hour travel day with travel arrangements that had time restrictions and so we couldn't delve further into the issue. We had no choice but to leave without resolution. There was no apology, and a lack of professionalism. All around it was handled very poorly by staff. Now, I know I've typed an essay so if you're still here thanks for reading. All in all I would NOT recommend spending your time or money coming to this place. Both my family member and I feel we would've been better off staying at the rodeway inn or another motel, and that it may have been cleaner. The River Lodge and Cabins is overpriced, outdated, and filthy with rude staff. Yuck!
