OK, not great The room was clean and comfortable, although there was a smell from a cleaning product. If you are affected by chemical smells, it’s best to avoid this chain. We had a far worse chemical smell experience at the Quality Inn in a nearby California town, and the problem was acknowledged by an employee who said other guests had complained about it. But getting back to Capitola, the front desk person was touchy when we asked for something which had not been attended to even though we had requested it while making the online reservation. We understand that online requests are sometimes overlooked, but that's not the guests' fault so no need to be touchy! All the rooms have a patio or balcony, and we were happy to see during this visit there was a dowel to ensure the glass door could not be opened from the outside. There is a grab bar in the shower/tub combo. The breakfast has the usual muffins, etc. Unfortunately, there are no healthy choices except for apples and oranges. This property used to have plain instant oatmeal packets, but not this time.

Poor Value for the Price! I would give 1 star except all the staff were polite. There were so many things wrong with the room, I travel frequently and rarely write a poor review: the WIFI was too slow to stream videos, it took 2 days for the TV to be fixed and working, there was a wooden dowel in the sliding door for security, there was no safe in the room, the breakfast was beyond basic (no oatmeal, eggs, sausage etc ), the room was clean but everything including the furniture was very old, the room had a bad smell, they cut every corner, shampoo & conditioner but no body wash. A microwave (broken, the plate didn't rotate) & sink but no papertowels, napkins etc. A weirdly large room but not enough furniture or lights to use it. I picked this for location to be near family, I should have paid more and stayed somewhere else!

Nice and clean place Decent clean motel. Nothing fancy but met our needs for an overnight stay for the Capitola Wine and Art Festival and was one of the most reasonably priced places during a peak high priced art fair weekend. Pool small so would not meet needs for a pool for a summer day.

Good AND bad (comfy bed, smell of smoke throughout)... Unfortunately, there were several. First impression upon driving into the property was how rundown it looks. I could see that it had recently been painted, but none of the paint on the buildings appeared to have been finished. Balconies and patios appeared to have been split in two to create additional spaces; this looks tacky and is definitely a "con" that would make me think twice about coming back, since balcony space is a huge plus for me. Check in was fine, but as soon as we walked away from the desk, I realized the man at the desk had given me a room that was on the ground floor. As I mentioned, I really love a room with a balcony, which my reservation showed I had specifically booked. I returned to the front desk to ask if there might be an upstairs room available that we could move to, as we had touched nothing in the room we'd already been assigned. I also specifically asked as nicely as I could, because I didn't want to come off as rude or entitled. To my surprise, the man at the desk said "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! All rooms have either a patio or a balcony?!" I simply explained that a patio isn't the same as a balcony, and that I had specifically chosen this hotel over others because I could book a room with a balcony. For some reason, that made this person decide I was a smoker. He said, "ok, well, there's no smoking anywhere on the property..." I asked if there was an upstairs room available with a balcony. The response: "ok, non-smoking upstairs rooms..." I don't understand. While we were easily switched to the room directly above the one we'd first been given, and without too much trouble, why did this man feel the need to treat me so disrespectfully? No one said anything about smoking at all, and as far as we could tell, there wasn't a single person checked into an upstairs room for the first night we were there. Did I greatly inconvenience this person by asking to switch from an untouched downstairs room to the one above it? Why did he need to be rude, much less insulting me by insinuating that I was a smoker and/or deviously planning to break some property rule. And as soon as we got our bags put down in the new upstairs room, my partner and I both noticed how strong the cigarette smell was throughout the building. I had noticed while walking between the office and the building where our room was located that even the air outside carried this strong cigarette smoke smell, and I also saw why: there's a deisgnated "smoking area" sitting right in the middle of the parking lot, not far from the office. This means that the area isn't really a smoke-free property, since the smell gets into the office, at least some of the rooms (via the balcony, ironically), and even the "fresh air" outside. Let me be clear, since for some reason I apparently was giving off a smoker vibe: I absolutely loathe this smell. I wish the property would do better, and move the smoking area to a corner of the parking lot that's much farther away from the buildings. Anyway, that's my story. The rest of our stay was pleasant enough and without issue. This hotel is fairly centrally located and was affordable and adequate. I'd consider staying again, but if I was treated similarly in the future, that would make me never go back. I hope the company will consider my feedback and try to do better.

it did what it had to do It's a Quality Inn and it did what it had to do. The front desk service was very friendly and helpful (we needed a room switch), the room was comfy, the location was fine, parking was easy, and the amenities were enough. No complaints.
