Luxury Abounds! WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW! My husband and I took our first night away from the kids (together) ever to spend one night at the Umstead. It was partly for our 11th anniversary and partly for our "N" date- "No kids Night away" and partly because we had hotels.com points that were expiring. What a fantastic choice! This place is luxury! Our only regret is not bringing our swimsuits. The weather was actually really lovely and we could have gotten in the outdoor pool. Our visit included walking the path around the lake twice, lounging out by the pool and talking (we didn't book any spa appointments), walking to Bonefish for dinner and then changing into the robes to order dessert from room service, walking to breakfast the next morning, lounging and reading and enjoying a fabulous lunch at Herons before heading home. If you haven't and you can, stay here! You will not be disappointed!

Worth it! I've been wanting to stay here for years as we go to Raleigh regularly to visit our son, but it's quite pricey and since we spend most of the time with our son's family, not really worth it. Due to a cancelled flight we had an extra night in Raleigh and so at the last minute decided to go to the Umstead. I had a lovely drink and relaxing time in the lounge area where the staff was absolutely charming. When the rain stopped and things dried out a bit I went to sit by the pool. The pool staff comes around regularly to ask if you need anything, or if you're in a hurry you can just order something at the pool bar. Our room was lovely - just as shown on the website. Sheets were luscious, everything spotless and well-lit. The bathroom had a huge counter and I really love a separate toilet room. We had rented an all-electric car which we needed to return fully charged to the airport and the valet staff handled it. We were really pleased to get that taken care of and we tipped them well as we had a very early flight the next morning. The competency and grace of the staff was consistent throughout the hotel and I have to compliment the management on their training. We will definitely return.

Fabulous, with every comfort for the business traveler or family! I travel for business and am constantly in and out of hotels. I judge everything from the moment I arrive to the moment I leave. Hands down, I can say that the Umsted may be one of the best hotels in America. The professionalism of the staff, the rooms, amenities, turndown service, and the dining options are simply the best! The walking path around the lake, the pool (in summer), and the workout room top off the stay with perfection. I have stayed at the Umsted over the last 5-6 years, and nothing has ever been out of place. And families, you'll be as welcome as I am as a business traveler.

Wonderful Solo Trip I had a wonderful solo getaway at the Umstead in July, 2024. I highly recommend staying on the ground (spa) level if you can because you have a serene outdoor porch that is shaded from the hot direct sun. The landscaping is beautiful and you feel very secluded amongst the trees and wildlife. The hotel is also very quiet. I could go on and on about the luxurious spa, but just book it. Everyone I met was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is pricy, but it's well worth the money. The food is excellent (I had room service,) and many details are well thought-out, such as the water and ice machine in the hallway (LOVE) as well as the sheets, iPad in the rooms, bath products and the structure of the shower. It was a required respite for me, and I left feeling rejuvenated and calm. You will not be disappointed. A+

very pretty, very comfortable The property is quite lovely. There is a nice path around a pond to walk. The pool area we used for a brief bit for relaxing. The room was clean, bedding comfortable, quiet hallways. We didn't eat at either of the restaurants. The bar and lounge was the open dining option for the night we stayed. I wasn't in the mood for fancy, so this wasn't a problem. Plenty of nearby restaurants. Hotels and resorts have a vibe, and it was just off for me. I'm sure others would be perfectly comfortable and would be able to appreciate it.
