Incredibly Disappointing Property-Not Ritz Quality If you are visiting this property expecting US Ritz Carlton service, you'll be sorely disappointed. Start to Finish... -We booked with Amex Fine Hotels and are always given an upgrade anywhere we go, but one was not offered. We even offered to pay for an upgrade as it was our anniversary and we were celebrating, but were told nothing was available. We looked at website later that evening and there were rooms available. -There are no minibars in the room and they do not have any store open to grab a simple soda after 6 pm. Restaurant bars were not open due to Covid, so the only option to get a drink after 6 is room service. Took almost 2 hours. -Restaurant staff is hit or miss, mostly miss. Some are incredibly friendly, but most couldn't care less if you were there. They acted like we were such an imposition on their precious time and they clearly wanted to be somewhere else. -Restaurant wait and service times are definitely slow, but I'm used to island time, so expected this. -Food was below average and very expensive. The only good thing I ate the entire trip was a cheeseburger from Sails. The Italian restaurant that everyone raved about was an epic fail. Not good at all, very small portions, very expensive. -They were out of pool towels by lunch each day we were there. You should not pay $1500 a night for a hotel room and not be able to get a towel. I was told I could walk up to the front desk to get some if I wanted (which is quite a hike from the pool/beach area). Again, we shouldn't have to do that as guests. -The pool/beach chairs get taken up FAST. They say no reserving, but that's exactly what happens and they didn't stop it. -The pool and hot tub was disgusting. The pool was cloudy and full of scum. The hot tub was even cloudier and there were used drinks, straws, trash nearby, evidence it was not attended. -The beach is very disappointing. It's very small. No shade. The view is beautiful, but the beach has hard coral at the entrance to the ocean that is incredibly difficult to walk on. There are no warning signs and you'd see people stumbling left and right. Many stubbed toes, too. At the very least, a sign warning guests what they're about to walk onto is in order. Otherwise, it just looks like sand and someone can get seriously injured. Seaweed was also a huge problem. -We discovered ants in our room on our second day, not just a few tropical bugs here and there, but a bunch, all crawling on the bedside table. I called the front desk and they sent engineering with a can of Raid. I did not feel comfortable having them spray this right by my head right when I was going to sleep. So I cleaned the bedside table myself with clorox wipes and guess what....they were gone and didn't come back. That leaves me to believe the table was not cleaned well to begin with and the ants were attracted to something sticky on the table. Not cool in the times of Covid. -On that note, they do have sanitizer stations throughout the resort but we found many to be out. Also, staff does wear masks, but some not wearing them appropriately over their nose and mouth. -One of the most infuriating parts of the experience was not being able to get in touch with the front desk when a need arose. It literally just rings and rings. Sometimes we got lucky and someone picked up after 5-15 minutes, sometimes they didn't and we'd have to walk to the desk (which is NOT close). This is extremely concerning if someone had a serious issue. We addressed our concerns to management and while some seemed helpful, others did not. Overall, it seemed very clear that they were overburdened with complaints. There were others complaining at the desk for similar issues when we did. I know some people truly wanted to help and their hands were tied. The issue overall comes from above and someone needs to step in to get this property on track. Previous reviews echo mine, so clearly these problems have been ongoing for quite some time. I would not waste your valuable time and money at this property.

Wonderful stay My family and I visited in August for a much needed vacation… we stayed in a club level ocean front room and it was perfect for our family of four. The concierge was excellent and Theanna welcomed us upon our arrival. Bertha and Ruth took wonderful care of us in the club lounge and my sons loved the food, especially the omelettes. The resort is beautiful and they worked hard every day to clear the seaweed that washed ashore. Cassandra our housekeeper was quick to respond to any thing we needed. When our flight was cancelled due to a tropical storm, the staff arranged for us to stay in our room another night. Overall, a beautiful resort with a wonderful staff who go the extra mile to make their guests feel at home. We can’t wait to return in the future.

Great Staff - Property Not Worth The Premium Cost Visited the Ritz St Thomas with my wife for a getaway, and we’d best describe the Ritz as adequate. The staff was wonderful. Everyone was friendly and helpful and appreciated having us. (We wish the other guests were as friendly…) The property itself is nice enough, but lacking in a place to grab a drink without getting a table for dinner. The beach is underwhelming, so be sure to get to the other beaches on the Island or St John. The proximity to Red Hook is a huge plus to grab a ferry or to eat in one of the fun restaurants there. The pool area is nice, but guests reserve chairs early and there aren’t any available if you show up later in the day. The activities are good, we did a catamaran trip to St John which was a highlight. The room was very comfortable, but nothing amazing, relatively small. As a Titanium member, I expected somewhat of an upgrade or some recognition of status, but really didn’t have anything notable other than a mention of points at checkin. Again staff was AWESOME and made the trip worth it. I just think the property itself may not be worth the Ritz premium…and the Marriott status doesn’t buy much at this one.

Nice people, horrible service Me and my family stayed at the Ritz Carlton for 5 nights. Everything is extremely overpriced and orders for drinks and food came from 30 minutes up to an hour late. Room service took 2 hours to bring a small order up to the rooms. The ocean was filled with seaweed and unable to swim in. Expected better.

First Island Vacation A very calming place to be, it’s difficult to get more relaxed than this. The ocean and beach are so close to each other, and the food is good on the resort. It’s not as easy to venture off the resort like other stays but the desire to leave isn’t very high
