Underwhelmed Underwhelmed best describes my stay at this hotel.
I would describe the building and grounds as aesthetically pleasing with a definitely 4 star appeal if not more, but that’s about it.
My wife and I booked this hotel through Secret Escapes having had a very positive experience a week earlier with SE at another hotel.
The executive room we had at this hotel was well and truly tired and worn out.
As one example what I thought was water stains on the carpet was in fact the carpet so threadbare it was down to the backing.
A pillow case was ripped and a towel, though I think was clean, looked unwashed and stained. The whole room experience felt grubby.
Hoping that the tired room would be compensated by good food, was not to be the case.
The food at both breakfast and evening was mediocre at best and did not even reach the standard I would have expected at a Harvester or a local pub.
Disappointing experience, a 3 star experience at most.
A Secret Escape break I would recommend stays a secret for solely negative reasons!

Room for improvement Was part of a wedding party here and had booked a room to stay the night. The hotel was really lovely and the venue itself is beautiful. I would say there could have been a couple of improvements. The venue was incredibly hot and the rooms were too, air conditioning would be a good investment for this hotel. Secondly check in was a little bit too late at 3pm it caused a few issues as I had no where to get ready for the wedding, as the wedding ceremony was at 3pm also. I asked reception if there was any chance the room could be prioritised for me, and the receptionist appeared a little perplexed at the request, needless to say I wasn’t able to check in until after the wedding ceremony in the end well after 4:30pm. Lastly the room I was given was a very long walk away from the wedding venue itself which caused a few issues when the weather took a bit of a turn for the worst.
Overall the grounds were beautiful, catering was outstanding - and most staff were friendly helpful and polite. It was an enjoyable stay, but there is definitely room for improvement.

Disappointment Room, grounds and spa we're lovely, however the communication between departments was not good, on three different occasions I got told I had an outstanding amount on my booking, I didn't as I paid this when I checked in.
The restaurant and the spa both told me the same, which as you can imagine is embarrassing when people stood behind us.
The bath and sink were not clean, other than that the room was OK.
Then the food, the chips were either over cooked or not cooked, the steak was an embarrassment for £30, and the burger was a soggy mess.
We maybe had eaten 30% of our food, it got taken away without any questions, and when I asked for the bill I was told " its already on the way ", how's that when I hadn't asked for it.
When we got to the spa we were shown the changing rooms, annnndddd then was it, we missed out on so many other features the spa had, we were not given a tour and we were not given and directions, we later realised there were relaxation rooms upstairs, also if we have had a tour we would of known not to walking into a treatment room, WITH SOMEBODY IN, again, very embarrassing. VERY DISAPPOINTED. The fact that we just wanted to relax saved them.
All in all, it was an OK experience, I would not recommend

Lovely Stay Stopped in the gatehouse suite located away from the main building for my partners birthday. Great stay all round. Breakfast was excellent and staff attentive.
Grounds are well kept and great to walk around especially when the weather is nice.

Grimm I am sure the nice staff work hard and the place has a nice garden but for the rest?? It should be 3* at best all very tired not that clean and food-well just no. We were on an England tour and sadly this was our worst hotel. Needs a multi million refurb or pull down and start again for preference
