Perfect Stay Our stay at the Historic Plains was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for checking out the town. If you are a fan of old hotels, this is the perfect place to stay. It's not super fancy but the architecture and charm more than make up for it.

Welcoming, just needs some TLC I was excited to stay at The Historic Plains Hotel. The staff member with whom I made the reservation was very friendly, and upon check-in the staff was very welcoming. The hotel has some beautiful and interesting artifacts and furniture displayed in the lobby and surrounding hallways. However, it needs some TLC to be restored to its original glory. The interior hallways surrounding the guest rooms are very dark and the decor is dated. The hotel has so much potential to really shine. The room was clean and had the amenities I needed for my stay. I'm really hopeful this historic building can be made beautiful again while still preserving its unique character.

Historical Gem, But Not Oustanding We loved the lobby and all of the historical artifacts on display. But this is a hotel in need of some tender loving care and enhancement. Room was small but adequate. We were grateful to be on the 5th floor, away from the street noise. Breakfast buffet - which is still advertised on their website -- was non-existent. It would be hard to highly recommend this place, other than to go visit the lobby, it's beautiful.

Never will stay again This hotel has gone down hill, i stayed here 3 years ago and was looking forward to staying again….what a disapointment the room was dirty, the window airconditioner was loud, the room smelled like cigarettes, the carpets were filthy , the desk clerks were not very friendley and questioned why i needed to change the room…. When you walked into the hotel it had a musty order like maybe it had mold… Would never stay here again…..

Never felt SO UNWELCOME! Received 3 emails to confirm my reservation and offsite parking. Never once was it mentioned that the hotel restaurant and lounge were closed. The website features pictures of fabulous meals and live music. These were important in my booking decision.Checking into our dated room, we went for ice. Sign on the machine said “if the ice machine is not operating, call the front desk”. The front desk said…”bring your bucket downstairs”. When I asked if the room was discounted because of these inconveniences, the reception responded, “I just check people in and out”. I expected Midwest courtesy but received only DISCOURTESY and UNCONCERN. Customer service is unknown to this hotel staff.
