Perfect Location, beautiful historic hotel. We just got home from a really nice stay at the Cleveland Renaissance Hotel. We have Platinum Elite status with Marriott and received an upgrade to a suite on the 12th floor overlooking the square. This is a beautiful older & historic hotel. We received great service from everyone we interacted from the front desk, the bar and the on site restaurant. The location is perfect. It was raining a little during our stay and we were able to walk inside from the hotel cutting through Tower City all the way to the Progressive Field team shop without getting wet. This is our new favorite hotel in downtown Cleveland!

Gilded Age Charm with a touch of skid row - Stay away I have never written a hotel review in more than 20 years of traveling, however a recent stay at the Renaissance Cleveland was such an insult to my standards for my family and the Renaissance name that I feel compelled. This hotel is indeed a product of the gilded age, complete with wide hallway walls bearing the nose nastiness of long ago guests, bathroom vanities that have not been scrubbed in years, and an overall layer of chipped paint and scuzzy grime that suggests the absence of a cleaning staff for a very - very long time. Case in point - my children upon walking into their room found old fruit from a previous guest just under one of the beds. The view from my window the next morning was a poor homeless man sleeping on the asphalt parking lot across the street. The staff was passable, however the parking garage will make you wonder if you aren't better off parking on the street (see previous sentence). In a word - disgusting. Not worthy of the Renaissance branding (which I will never trust again) or your hard earned dollars

Never again No valet. Good luck w panhandlers getting to hotel after you park in the stench filled garage. No restaurant. Every Marriot I've been to has mostly reopened. Not hear. A few hours of to go bar food is your option. Smelly hallways on the 11th floor No staff. Called front desk several times. No answer. With 2200 Marriott stays I know the difference Never again

Formerly majestic hotel in dirty decay Covid forces us to compromise usual standards. Even with significant allowances, Renaissance Cleveland is a major disappointment. Our by car was terrible. The hotel garage was filthy, with garbage everywhere, including food and beer cans stacked up outside and inside elevators. A pile outside the 2F elevator was there when we arrived and had not been removed 24 hours later when we left. The door connecting the garage to the hotel was locked, forcing us to get soaked in the rain while walking to the front door. Aggressive panhandlers, prevalent in the neighborhood, shouted menacingly at the hotel entrance. Inside the hotel’s formerly majestic public spaces, there are signs of decay and inadequate cleaning everywhere. Dark stains were prevalent on the fraying carpets. The lobby bar was in shabby decay, though at least it was open (unlike many other hotel bars these days). There was basically no hotel service - calls to the front desk went unanswered. A notice cautioned that any room repair requests would require the occupant to be away from the room for 3 hours prior to repair service (I haven’t seen this anywhere else). At reception there was only one person despite long check-in, check-out lines. We wanted to use the room safe but there was no key and reception (when I went down and stood in line) advised that keys had been removed from safes and lost prior to Covid. That said, the room itself was clean and in decent shape. Bottom line: public areas at the Renaissance look like a set for an old black-and-white horror movie. There must be better places to stay in Cleveland.

Brides Beware!!! I am happy for other brides below me who had positive experiences at the Renaissance, for mine was not as positive. I was a Covid-19 bride, and had to postpone my wedding from June 2020 to June 2021. Prior to the pandemic, the Renaissance seemed to be a wonderful, accommodating venue and I was so excited to have my dreams come true in the beautiful ballroom. However, as soon as the pandemic hit, my experience went downhill. First, the planner we were working with, Karen, was furloughed and we were not given any notice. I had emailed Karen multiple times about rescheduling the wedding and had no response, which caused anxiety. Eventually, we contacted someone above at the Renaissance, who informed us that Karen was furloughed, but we could still reschedule. The experience was miserable. If I could cancel my wedding then and find a new venue, I would have. I was treated as though my wedding was unimportant, despite already paying in full for the event. Fast forward to our wedding, finally. The majority of our friends and family traveled from all over the U.S., and booked within our room block (they sent me confirmation emails). However, the Renaissance did not have any of them as being apart of our room block. I gave the Renaissance a list of everyone who was checking in from out of town, and who needed a welcome bag. NONE of our guests received our welcome bags, which we spent close to $400 on. I have absolutely no idea where our welcome bags went, but I hope whoever has them from the Renaissance enjoyed all of our treats and custom made letters that were meant for OUR guests. Speaking of rooms and guests, NONE of our rooms were cleaned throughout the weekend (we stayed Thursday-Sunday). No clean towels, sheets, nothing. We specifically requested for our room to be cleaned and it was not. None of my bridesmaids, close friends, groomsmen, or family members had their rooms cleaned, either. The night of the wedding, our wedding coordinator at the Renaissance left the event quite early, before the dancing really even started. We had ordered a late night snack from Donatos pizza, which we specifically left money at the desk for and was told that someone would sign for it, pay the delivery man and bring the pizza in. Instead of this happening, I was dragged off of the dance floor by the delivery man who was very upset that he needed someone to sign for the pizza and no one was around to do so. I could go on and on about my disappointing experience at the Renaissance, but I am running out of room. Brides, save your money and your sanity for a better venue. The Renaissance has not recovered from the pandemic, and I would never wish any bride to go through what I experienced. What was supposed to be the best day and weekend of my life quickly became more stressful than needed because details were not attended to that I was promised would be. Unfortunately I cannot go back in time and re-do the most important day of my life, but hopefully I can steer other brides in a better direction for theirs.
