Appalling lack of guest care I walked into a concealed iron bed base protruding from the corner of the bed in my room (1707.) It ripped into my shin and left a nasty gash which 4 weeks later is still repairing. Negligent in their duty of care for hotel guests. I’m still waiting for a response from Patrick the manager. Waiting for a promised incident report. Appalling lack of responsibility for guest welfare and safety.

Great location and history. Stayed here for two nights. Chose the hotel due to its history and location. Location was excellent close to attractions, bars and cafes/restaurants. The hotel could certainly make more of its history which is rich. There is no doubt the hotel is ageing, but I think for its price and location it was very comfortable and staff very friendly. The morning tea and coffee service in the foyer was welcome. The downside was no WiFi. As international travellers who had just landed and this was our first hotel this was problematic. We heard lots of reasons including AT&T upgrading wireless towers in the area which I struggle to see how that was relevant to the hotel WiFi. Looking at other reviews it appears this is an ongoing issue and I suspect it is an ongoing issue. More tourist information and advice at reception would be useful as this was very limited.

DISGUSTING Stains all over carpeting in room (disgusting). No Wi-Fi available in rooms during my stay. Toilet wobbled and I thought it was going to tip over. Horrible tile repairs that are clearly very u professional at base of toilet, see photos. Horrible experience. Front desk asked me for my number so manager could call and they apparently never cared to call! Disgusting experience.

Dated and problems with wifi and shower Checked in on a business trip. I picked this hotel since it had some history. Unfortunately my first room was outside WiFi range so I had to get another room. I had just unpacked so mildly annoying. New room the WiFi worked. The shower didn’t. A person from the maintenance staff came up and replaced the faucet. Took him 5 min. First world problem? Maybe. But Magnolia is listed as 4 star hotel. I picked this to save the company some $$. I don’t think I will do that again.

Charged for rooms we didn't stay in Back in January 2024 I booked 2 rooms for 2 nights for May 20-22 and was very much looking forward to staying at this iconic hotel. When I was checking my confirmation emails the week prior to our departure from Australia I noticed that those for this hotel included the statement: "Full prepayment of room and tax due at the time of booking...". As there were no room fees deducted from our bank account I emailed the hotel to confirm that our booking was okay. When I did not receive a response I called the hotel from Australia and spoke to two different employees who stated that there were no bookings under my name or with my reservation numbers. I did try to book rooms over the phone however they did not have any rooms left with two beds to accommodate our adult children so disappointingly I was forced to book a different hotel for our stay. Imagine my surprise when I saw that on May 21 the full amount for the 2 rooms for the 2 nights was deducted from our bank account. I immediately contacted the hotel and was able to speak to the Front Office Manager who advised that he would contact their Finance Department re a refund. I also sent the details of what had occurred in an email and kept following up for the next 5 weeks and eventually (and with the involvement of the Assistant General Manager) I was offered a refund of one night for each room even though I was deemed to be a 'no show'! I responded that this was not acceptable as I had made every effort to confirm our booking and been advised that there was none. I have sent 3 follow up emails with both of the above contacts and have received no responses to any of them. I am currently out of pocket around $1600 (AUD) which includes the $88 international transaction fees I also occurred due to this debacle. Not good enough Magnolia Hotel!
