Here for an annual conference The lodge is located well into the Canaan Valley Resort State Park; the signs make it easy to find. Unfortunately, I wasn't there long enough to enjoy any of the innumerable recreational activities The lodge has a modern design; the staff were friendly but seemed a little slow to assist with the checking in process. The room had all of the amenities I could reasonably expect. The mattress was Ok, but not as comfortable as those in most other hotels I have stayed in recently. The view from the room window was beautiful The conference rooms were a little crowded, and the seating was only adequate. I'm not certain that the conference rooms have kept up with the most recent technology. Overall a good experience

Golf outing, hiking Very nice resort, golf coarse, indoor and outdoor pool. Great restaurant and lounge. Great walking trails. Dolly Sods is 30 minutes away. Seneca Rocks is about 45 minutes away. 20 minutes to Black Water Falls. Beautiful outdoor sitting areas and local wildlife.

Not bad, but not great Rooms were clean, but not very sound proof. Hardwood floors made the room above us louder than needed. We were literally around corner from front desk so we could hear all things there. Ok location. Convenience store across the street was nice as there was no vending (or extra toothbrushes) at ‘hotel’.

Nice views, dirty room TL;DR we arrived to find our room hadn't been cleaned and we had to clean it ourselves. We are big fans of nearby Timberline ski area, and we thought we would give the Canaan Valley Resort a try. The hotel was fully booked, but at the last minute a double queen room opened up so we reserved it for three nights. The ski forecast looked bleak, but we were hoping the resort amenities would make up for the lack of snow. We arrived around 9pm Thursday evening and the check-in process was painless. The resort seemed empty but we assumed it would be packed by Friday night. When we arrived at our room we found it had not been cleaned. The sheets and towels were changed, but there was still trash in the trash cans, dirt and leaves on the floor and I won't mention the state of the bathroom. No big deal, accidents happen. I called the front desk and asked if we could change rooms, but that was not possible. They told me that housecleaning was gone for the day, but they sent a very nice young man to our room with a terrible vacuum. While he went in search of cleaning supplies my wife vacuumed the room. He returned with some spray cleaner and between the 3 of us we were able to make the room presentable. The next day we ran to the store for toilet paper (they left us one roll for 3 night stay). Otherwise the resort was fine. We enjoyed having coffee in the lobby by the big window in the mornings. The staff that we interacted with all get 5 stars. I get the feeling they are trying to do the best they can with what they have. We were disappointed that our room was not clean when we arrived, and that the front desk was not able to give us a different room in an otherwise nearly empty resort.

Nice ski area, nice trails Great ski area, nice trails, nice lodge. The only 2 issues we found was that no one bothered shoveling the steps from the parking lot to the lodge. They were covered with deep snow and ice. Unacceptable. The second issue was that there is no delineated path from the lodge up to the main chairlift. It is a fairly steep hike with no delineated path. Not fun, safe or easy to do in ski boots. They really need to fix this and to hire someone to keep the steps clear. Otherwise a very nice ski area in a very beautiful location. The same situation existed at their hotel. No one had shoveled the steps.
