Terrible restaurant! If there had been no stars. I would have picked that. Class reunion lunch and they knew 20 of us were coming at noon to eat. Took forever to be waited on and then that was for drinks only. I didnt time it but it took a while. Finally after drinks were served, the server criss-crossed down the table getting orders. After 1 1/2 hours she started bringing some food but only 2 plates at a time and stood at the end of the long table asking what you had. Most could not hear her. The last person got his burnt hamburger at around 2 hours. The server NEVER came back to offer more drinks, to see how everything was, or to see if we needed anything else. Then it was 30 minutes to pay with her asking each person what they ate and then putting it into the register. I am just shocked at how inefficient it was. And the food was not good...maybe 2 stars. FYI, I have never written such a bad review and bothers me to know that one of our state park has gone so downhill.

Nice lodge needs consistent Dining hours. Nice and quiet, very relaxing being close to nature. They have a nice pool with good lounges. The room was basic but clean and included what is needed, except there is not a microwave nor refrig. The dining room was closed for most meals while we were there requiring an 8-10 miles drive to small-town restaurants. Self-serve breakfast was available which was just OK.

Nice place but call before you go, lost reservation I'd been to Pennyrile lodge in 2019 and really enjoyed my room with deck overlooking the lake. It's peaceful ( No cell service, be aware), has a nice pool, good beach without motorboats, hiking trails, etc. So a few months ago I decided to book a last of summer trip since my daughter is a senior this year and it may be awhile before we can travel together again. Much to our disappointment we get to Pennyrile and we have no room. I have my printed reservation receipt but they have no rooms do to a family reunion booking them all. They said there was a glitch in booking site and this had unfortunately happened to others as well. Spoke with a friend and she had this happen to her a few years back too. So, while I do recommend be aware that you need to verify before you show up because there 8s nowhere else to stay in the immediate area. We were able to book another room about 45 minutes away, but it was on the highway lol...a nice pool, but no scenic overlooks or hikes!

Not like I remembered! We stayed here about 15 years ago and remembered it as one of our favorite state parks. We were given a room 204. We were on the end . It was an handicapped room which was a good thing. The balcony was a problem for us. We loved it during the day but at night it was impossible to sit out there. They have placed a spot light on the balcony of this room. We were looking forward to sitting on the balcony and watching the night sky and that wasn't possible. The bathroom had a hand held shower sprayer, we never figured out how to run water in the tub through the faucet. We had to fill the tub up with water that came out of the sprayer. The air conditioner was a trip in it self. We believe there was something wrong with the wall thermostat it didn't even light up on the display. I did report these things to the desk after we checked out. We stayed 2 nights. There is no cell phone service but you will have internet if you have a computer. The lady at the desk was okay but not overly friendly. There is a restaurant but you will need to order and they will call you to pick it up when it is ready. You will need to bring a cooler with drinks and snacks. It will take at least 15 minutes to get to a restaurant in Dawson Springs. The restaurant we went to one morning was Ms. Becky's. Our last night at Pennyrile they had a wedding along with a reception. They were loud for most of the night. I heard things falling people yelling. The next morning I looked out to see how much damage was done. I didn't see anything but I'm sure that was cleaned up long before I got up. I was surprised they would allow this at a state park where people usually come for the quiet of being around the lake. The other big issue with Kentucky state parks is the dog policy. They are allowing these dogs to be in the lodge rooms from what I understand. They don't have separate rooms for people with dogs. I have no problem with service dogs. I have a major problem with being in a room that I pay good money for and thinking there are or could be fleas and who knows what else that was left from the pets. If you are a dog lover what would make you think I would want to sleep with dogs. I might not be that in love with your dogs. I say stop the dog policy at the Ky resort parks. If you keep the policy you will lose a lot of visitors to the parks,

Good room, not a good shower The room appeared to have newer carpet and was clean. The lodge was nice with a good lounge. We ordered dinner to-go from the restaurant, which was good as well. The room had a great view of the lake and a balcony. Unfortunately, we were just passing through so we arrived late in the evening and left early morning, so we didn't get to explore the park.
The let-down was the shower. It sprayed, but there was also enough water still coming out of the main faucet that the tub fills up while showering. For the cost of the room ($115), I expect a good working shower. Due to booking last minute, maybe we got the only room with the bad shower (room 206), but I doubt it.
It's a nice place, but the bad shower was a major disappointment.
