Not #1 in Dubuque more like 95 The building may be historic, but so is HVAC system. We were cold. Room was 66 degrees. There were directions on the thermostat on how to operate. I put thermostat to 74 and went to sleep. I woke up at 5:30am to a 95.2 degree room. With no ventilation. We could have died in the room. We are not young. I opened the door for an hour and stood in the hall. Temp fell to 83. I called front desk. He asked me what temperature do I want the room. Odd Q. 72 I guess. Nothing. Called again lady just came on duty and knew nothing. Thermostats in the rooms do not control the temperature! The front desk does she said. Luckily we had to leave for the day. We only got dressed and left. When we got back it was 69 degrees. So I never touched the thermostat again and was cold for 2 more nights. I slept in long pants and sweater in July. Upon checkout I told another person and he said he would talk to the manager about getting us some compensation. Never heard anything. So here I am. Do not stay here. All other complaints are true also. I just wanted to focus on our air/heat in July.

Skip it. Not worth the bad customer service We stayed last week at this property. We were in town for the field of dreams tournament with our family. We opted to stay here for a more luxury experience, a little get away for ourselves as well. We quickly realized the mistake we made. Within the first 24 hours after getting to our room on the 6th floor 4 separate times, we had to go bs k to the desk to get new cards as they continuously were de magnetized, a couple of those times we we’re treated like we were lying about being guests and have to produce ID, which you don’t always have walking around the hotel. We upgraded to a luxury suite with a tub, we could not use the tub because neither the exhaust fans in the bathroom or above the tub worked, so the room would become unbearable with heat and humidity. We notified the front desk our first day, NOTHING WAS DONE. Now? The fan in the bathroom was also not working, it also made things… uncomfortable. We were supposed to have a call from the manager as they were not in when we checked out, it’s been 4 days, still no call. Poor customer service. The hotel our family and team was at was a waterpark and they have an amazing experience as did we when visiting. For the money we spent, well over $1k, save yourself, not worth it. Yes, it’s a historic property but not a worth the hype. We are disappointed in the customer service and maintenance as well as management. Do better

CLASSY This is our "go to" hotel when we are in eastern Iowa. The hotel is classy and in an excellent downtown location. We stayed here two nights in June before moving on to another state. Expect your room to be extremely clean and the staff to be professional, friendly and very helpful. We asked to change room to a higher floor and the front desk said "No problem". We wanted the best view of the river. A thank you to management as they have assembled a great team from the front desk to housekeeping. We will certainly stay here again.

Save Your Money - Stay at a big chain or somewhere else. When looking online for a place to stay for our 25th Wedding Anniversary (we wanted somewhere nice) for our little getaway together - we chose Hotel Julien hotel because we felt it would be more upscale compared to others in the area. When we arrived to our room right away we noticed stains on the lamp shades, the couch in our room was leaning and missing a leg, the desk in the room was damaged and barely put back together. Along with that we found the curtains to also have several stains, looked like water stains in them. Since this was a Boutique hotel experience we did expect the linens and bedding and bed to be a bit more luxurious but found them cheap and worn and the bed extremely hard and uncomfortable. I was excited for the robes, however they were dingy and old and seemed unclean. I would have expected top tier products in the bathroom again - the website boasts a boutique hotel experience. Rather found less than stellar shampoo /conditioner and soap. I do believe that our body wash and shampoo were the same thing. The shower had minimal pressure - which I can understand since we were on the 5th floor, but the grout and walls in our bathroom were filthy and chipped. While the room was spacious - it felt unclean, unkempt and out of date. We do understand this is an older building - that part we loved - it just seems well overdo for and upgrade inside the rooms. We loved the wooden door to our room and the double doors to the bathroom. I feel like we were ripped off for $300 a night. I even told them we were celebrating our anniversary and they did not offer us anything at all as a comp not even a free drink. This room was not worth the $300 a night standard. We expected to feel like we were staying somewhere really nice and this put a damper on our Anniversary for sure and made us feel like we had been tricked by the ads. We were very disappointed in our room and our stay. We expected, given the price and website, to feel like we were staying somewhere really nice and special. This hotel did not meet our expectations and I was shocked at how bad and deteriorated everything was in our room. The lobby area and all other areas of the hotel are well kept and beautiful, too bad the rooms don't compare at all. The worst part was on top of everything else the bed was super hard and we both had backaches the next day. Many improvements need to be made inside the rooms in order for me to ever consider coming back. It's too bad too because it's a great location, beautiful old building with tons of charm. I have stayed in many Drury Inns, Hyatts and even Hilton Garden Inns that were WAY nicer than this BOUTIQUE hotel for a fraction of the price and included free food and drinks.

History and Modern accommodations all in one! Front desk was excellent, rooms were modern and the place drips with history. Could walk to so many destinations from the location - cable cars, city hall, Mississippi River Museum and many restaurants. The 2 floor lobby is one of the best we have seen in our travels.
