Avoid the Smoke Filled Hotel-Casinos The perfect place to stay in Elko if you do not like cigarette smell and a casino surrounding you. It is still close to casinos but you are not in the middle of them. The lobby is very inviting and nicely decorated. My room was on the 2nd floor facing an embankment topped by a chain link fence with a parking area for a business on the other side. It was a Sunday night so no noise and on Monday morning it was also very quiet. The room was clean, nicely appointed and the bed was very comfy. My friend had a handicap accessible room on the first floor and it was somewhat dingy with peeling wallpaper. The restaurant right next to the hotel was closed on Sunday nights and we did not use them for breakfast.

Nice Hotel but strange smells in the pool/ jacuzzi The Shutters hotel is a very nice facility just 3 miles outside of the downtown of Elko. It has a very nice lobby with comfortable seating with views of the mountains. The bar and restaurant area are very nice and there is comfortable seating for eating and talking. All of the staff were very friendly from the front desk to the bar to the restaurant area. The room was very comfortable and clean. The bed was very comfortable which was a nice surprise. The downsides were because of the location right next to the interstate you could hear a lot of traffic noise in the room. Also at 4 AM someone was clog dancing above me and woke me up. They have a very nice pool and Jacuzzi area but the water was murky and smelled of chlorine and beef and broccoli soup. The pool area requires better maintenance. A few downsides didn’t make me very unhappy and I still enjoyed my stay though.

Night staff is terrible The hotel is awesome, really it is. After 10pm you can calll the front desk about the parties and loud noise and they do absolutely nothing. The room next to us did not get quiet until after 1am. They hire a bunch of kids at the front desk who do nothing but check you in and hide in the office

Problems Honoring Reservations We did not have a good experience. This hotel seemed to be very poorly managed. They don’t honor reservations, especially if you book through a 3rd party like hotels.com. We reserved and paid for a suite only to discover when we arrived at 5pm they had given it away and downgraded us to a smaller room. There were others that arrived after us that also seemed to have trouble securing the specific room types they had reserved. I guess it was a miracle we received a room at all, after seeing the chaos in the lobby that evening. If we had arrived any later we probably would have been out of luck and looking for somewhere else to stay the night. Luckily after much hassling with hotels.com we were able to get a small partial refund off the price we paid. The hotel looks nice from the outside and the lobby area is pleasant, but the room left a lot to be desired. The basic king room we were stuck with was indeed very basic. The bathroom had not been updated in many years. Very little counter space, broken towel rack, not very clean and the toilet had such a weak flush it didn’t really work. Also no exhaust fan. The free breakfast was not great. The options were a breakfast burrito or a scrambled egg plate with bacon and potatoes. They seem to have a “restaurant” so could be cooking a made to order breakfast but instead just heat up pre-prepared food. It was mostly inedible. Coffee was also very bad. Stay elsewhere in Elko.
