Crags Lodge This is a historic lodge in a beautiful setting. It is a quiet place to stay. If you like modern style this is not the place for you. There are some things they could do to help the aesthetics but the past year and a half of COVID has made it hard to get help.

Decent stay with good location We had a nice time. Although, there is only one tv and it’s located in the living room area without one in the bedroom. At least in our room #309 we normally fall Asleep to TV. No big deal it’s a nice place to lay your head. Rest of our time was spent in the Rocky Mountains. Beautiful!

Overpriced and understaffed in Estes Park during Low Season We chose this hotel for a romantic weekend away from Denver where we live. Both of us have been to Estes Park many times but never stayed at the Historic Crags. We are getting married in Spring 2022 so we were also scouting out a place for the wedding. When we arrived, the two friendly reception clerks advised that our rate for two nights was $520, including taxes and a $12 per night "resort fee." The resort fee is apparently an upcharge for the open hot tub, which is beautiful, and the dishwashing soap and slow WIFI. Our room on the 3rd floor did have a gorgeous view. So imagine our surprise when we were charged a $200 deposit on top of the hotel stay (two adults in their 50s). Willing to let that slide, we were stunned when we went to check out on Sunday morning and called the front desk to see if we couTld check out "late," around 11 a.m.. The front desk clerk, Foryoh, told me flatly, "No. We are overbooked and understaffed." There you go. I've seen nicer service at Motel 6. So we checked out (there was a line because yes, everyone gets kicked out at 10 a.m. on Sundays I guess.) The clerk asked me if I truly wanted a printout of my receipt. I said I did and we departed. Their restaurant is not open. The mattress is cheap, even though the sheets and pillows are high quality and soft. The building itself is older and is in sore need of a paint job and the fireplace was never even lit during our entire stay. All of which I understand but if the two day stay charge is over $500, during COVID-19, they may want to move check out time from 10 a.m. on Sundays. We were looking forward to a relaxing Sunday morning and instead we will choose another place to stay next time we're in Estes Park.

Mostly Good We’ve stayed here before and like it. The view from room of town surrounded by mountains is great - see pic. And we like the grounds and particularly enjoy the outdoor hot tub. One complaint of this and many other places, particularly during COVID-19 - It’s the resort fee. Can this not be reduced commiserate to reduced amenities? Basically no hot beverages in the lobby like usual and the game room is closed, as was the restaurant l. I guess we had the hot tub, but beyond that, what? Wifi? That’s like charging for air these days in my opinion. Anyway, in general I dislike this resort fee trend. Just charge me a fair price for what I’m getting and be done with it. Also, there was a constant clicking all night. I’m thinking it might have been the pipes (old building). It was a little disruptive trying to sleep. The hotel is generally very charming, staff friendly, and you can walk to town (albeit down a big hill). Plus, they are often on Groupon with good rates. So we’ll probably be back.

A Real Find This is a beautifully managed place. What a find. Great winter prices. The places old so it has its downside--mainly that on the second floor I could hear the loud and heavy footsteps on the person on the 3rd floor above me--at 3:30am. Lost sleep, but really enjoyed the room itself. Views, spotlessly clean, excellent room amenities, wonderful lighting, good internet,, windows that open. The bed is not great. An updated cushier mattress would make this place almost a 10! I'd come back, but only to stay on the third floor.
