More museum than resort To start the majority of the property is absolutely gorgeous! Feels like your walking around a villa in Europe. We stayed at the Grand Lodge which was very nice. However the rooms had an absolutely horrible view of the roof/ huge ac units. While they did warn us upon check in, the view is so bad that is really something they should tell guests when booking. Or at the bare minimum those rooms should be cheaper since you have to keep the shades drawn to deal with the eyesore. Another issue I noticed is there is no signage around the resort letting guests know how to get to different places. The signage that was around would lead to nowhere or point you in a completely different direction. The lodge is like a maze and with no signs, I was constantly getting lost. I ended up on a service elevator twice. I'm not sure if the maze/no signs is initial or not. If i wasn't getting lost constantly I never would have found all the beautiful works of art that are all over, which was very nice but sometimes you just want to get where your going. Overall I'm just unsure about this place. It was very nice and beautiful, but everything just looked pretty with no substance. I wasn't blown away by the quality of service. The animals need to go, no one should be owning exotic animals especially for entertainment. The casino was also incredibly depressing. Nemacolin is an odd mix of extremely over the top luxury and basic resort. Seems to have a mixed identity that maybe will be fully realized over the next few years as more updates come. I just hope they focus on service quality and guest experience instead of just making sure everything looks pretty for Instagram.

Improved amenities and higher cost shouldn't equal poor service. I recently visited the property over the 4th of July and stayed four nights. My wife and I have been to the resort around nine or ten times in a 12 year period. While the amenities have improved and prices have gone up, the service has gone down. Within five minutes of checking in, I took my daughter (four years old) to use the bathroom in our room at the Falling Rock and as soon as I sat her down she nearly fell off, I looked and the toilet seat was broken. I put in a request to have maintenance come up to fix it they ended up installing a new seat. Later when I was having an issue with the safe I requested someone come up and take a look at it, they told me the individual was on a call and that I would have to be in the room to have him take I look at it. I declined as we had made plans and needed to stay on schedule. We woke up the next day and headed to The Fawn and Fable, once there another guest and I had to go look for a host/hostess, when we finally found her she was so flustered, she told us it was a 45 minute wait. She told us that they were short staffed which I found odd since it was the 4th of July so they should've been staffed properly. We ended up rushing back to Falling Rock to eat at The Aqueous. During the course of our stay we made dinner reservations at The Aqueous and The Fawn and Fable, while the dinner was excellent and the ambience (at Fawn) was out of this world I had to ask for a drink I ordered twice at both places. They ended up taking them off of the bill which was ok (if you make a mistake, make it right). I think the best part of our stay was going to The Peak, the staff were very helpful and I ended up talking to one of the servers there. The next day I went back and the server (Ethan) remember my name and even helped me find some chairs even though he was working in the cabana section. He was so helpful, I decided to rent a cabana for the day (best decision) and relax there while the rest of the family relaxed in the pool. Now my last day was probably the worst part of the trip, I should have went to the hostess or the front desk to complain, but my family seemed like they were having a good time. None of the staff stop by to ask me did I need anything or offer a menu, I watched as the staff went to everyone else, but I had to flag someone down and ask for a menu. This happened at least four times, the server would walk by me, ask the family if they needed anything and then walk by me again. I have seen this property go from public to private, blossom from just a nice getaway to a place you can't wait to get back to. I don't know if I should give it another try and this was a one off, or if this is a sign of things to come. For the amount of money we spent there, I would think we would get better service than that. It seems like the personal touch that I remember them for is gone, I hope that's not the case.

Beautiful except for our view. Just returned from a two night mother-daughter getaway at Nemacolin. Our room would have been perfect if not for the view of vents. and a dirty roof. The bathroom was spectacular. Having a butler was nice, but you really can’t do anything for yourself. We needed ice only to discover that the only way to have your ice bucket filled is to call the Butler service which usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. We loved the fact that you can pick out different pillows to try and we did have the Butler pour a bath one evening. The grounds are nicer than they were a decade ago when we last visited. . The wildlife park is much improved. All of the staff were incredibly personable. Everything here is quite pricey, so it was a pleasant surprise when we discovered that the mini golf was included. There are multiple trails to walk and lots of outdoor sculptures to either appreciate or ridicule. The spa treatments were well done. The restaurants varied so I plan to review them separately. All in all I believe we will be back but would request a higher room.

Beautiful property with fun activities but has some kinks to work out - bland food & dog poop around townhouses We stayed at the Washington Town Homes with family. It's the perfect place for extended family to each have your own space but still be close enough. Would love to stay here again if it weren't so $$! The place has been recently redone and while a striking lovely design, is not the most thorough job. There are patches of wallpaper peeling, and there are open seams between countertops and walls, and baseboards missing. All small things, but also noticeable. The biggest probably not up to code item to note is that at the top of the stairs, there are poles with large gapes between - I could comfortably stick my head through and overlook the stairs, which means it's a big fall hazard for littles. Might be a lawsuit waiting to happen. It's lovely to wake up and sit on your patio and watch the emus and other animals roam. One thing to gripe though, while I love other peoples dogs and the property was great about having dog poop stations, owners were not so great about picking up after their dogs. As a result, people in our party stepped in dog poop twice and traipsed it through the house and basically smeared poop all over the rugs of 3 of the homes. I have little children, and watching them roll around the floor where dog poop had been smeared made me gag. Might be necessary for the property to deep clean the rugs between visits, enforce poop pick up, employ someone to do that, or ban dogs altogether because it sucks to pay $1500 a night to have to dodge poop every other step and have you kids fall into it as they run. There's also poison ivy in and around rocks, so if you're not careful, something else to note for your kids who might climb them. Last item to gripe about townhomes, is they have beautiful dishware, which is great if you're an adult, but if you've got kids which I'm assuming most people visiting the townhomes are, they aren't practical, from glass highballs and ceramic plates, there are no child friendly options, which means you're bound to break a dish or glass or 2. Might be helpful to have some non-breakable options as well. While the property is utterly breathtaking, the food leaves a lot to be desired in almost all the restaurants. It's pretty disappointing how bland and not tasty most of it is especially given so many of the other highlights of the property. Onto top highlights: Mini golf - one of the BEST most beautiful courses I've ever been to. It's lovely that it's also complimentary Carousel - runs at the top of every hr. Impeccably preserved and beautiful given that it's also 100 yrs old! Hardy gym - SUCH a fun place for kids and adults - has a mini american ninja warrior type course if you so wanted to partake, but the kids are happy bouncing off foam blocks and swinging from ropes. There was also a fun interactive virtual reality laser tag, ping pong, skyzone track, boulder wall and foosball table Zoo - kids loved seeing all the animals Golf course - beautiful courses Lautrec - Delightful experience. Their service is top notch, had a singer with a beautiful voice, and food is delicious. Artwork - they have some of the FINEST artwork - from Warhol to Kluge - just felt like i was in a gallery. Pools - were awesome - one has a slide, the other has a lazy river, and the height of the pool was perfect for adults at the swim up bar and littles so you didn't have to worry about them Spa - absolutely gorgeous the moment you step in from the ambiance, decor and feel. The snacks and flavored water were a nice touch. My massage was less than ideal but that was a my masseuse issue. I won't name names but he didn't have great masseuse hands, which was a disappointment given the $600 we spent there and I can get a much better massage where I live (in a big city) for much less. I've heard that some of the others are better, and wish I had a name to ask for when i went Live music - nice touch both at the peak, as well as in the atrium of the chateau (a harpist!) Other things we didn't get a chance to do TLDR - Beautiful property that is impeccably maintained, with so many lovely amenities and so many fun things to do for both big people and small. Still has some kinks to work out namely food and poop situation around town homes, otherwise worth a visit especially for occasions like family reunions.

A Fabulous Resort and Memorable Stay I just wanted to say that this is a resort that really goes all out to make people happy and to provide adults and kids with wonderful experiences. The attention to detail, the many options for activities, the resort cleanliness, and most importantly, the staff are absolutely exceptional. I travel all around the world, and I believe this is a world class resort that is really outstanding for both couples and families.
