End of summer holiday Rooms although dated were clean. Food was hit and miss. The buffet you will always find something you like. Japanese the sushi was the best part. The Italian was good. Did not like the gourmet restaurant. The steak house for linch was decent dinner was a disappointment. It would be good id they actually smoked the chicken ribs and sausage and grilled the steak properly. The staff were great and the beach was wonderful.

Hit and Misses The RIU Guanacaste rooms are dated. And they need an upgrade. There are no reservations required for restaurants, but it is first come, so arrive as soon as it opens. Buffet is always available. The resort is very clean, and there are employees constantly cleaning and mopping. The resort is isolated, so everything is done there. There is nightly entertainment. The staff was friendly.

Be ware of RIU Guanacaste. The maid service was mediocre. There were bugs in our room. The food was less than average. The food was very salty. It does not offer options for people with gluten allergies. While eating at the steakhouse raccoons were jumping on the tables to eat left overs from people’s plates. We took pictures. When guests pointed that out to the staff they said it was no big deal and did nothing to prevent the raccoons from mingling around people and jumping on tables. That was scary. They also allowed a dog to roam around at the restaurant! Very unsanitary! The entertainment was poor. The performers were amateurs who made many glaring mistakes during their performances. I would not recommend this hotel at all. Too much stress, staff negligence, and bad food.

Paradise in Costa Rica _ Came here in July from the U.K. via Miami, we booked directly through Riu, The service we found was ok and to be expected I wouldn't say it was bad or amazing, the Riu Guanacaste was impressive and really glad we did not go to the palace as that would not have suited us, we travelled with our 8 and 11 year olds. The pools are good, they have table tennis, no football while we were there, the slides you have to walk to so it was a great setup but quite detached though worth the visit (twice in the week we were there, I loved the beach and we did not feel the need to go elsewhere. Food- A lot to choose from but I did not enjoy it being honest, weather- very very humid, Negatives were the mosquitos, take repellent and even that won't stop them. The rooms are run down though it did not bother us much and assume they aren't updating them because they're building a huge 3rd Riu next door. Positives- the reason we came here- the wildlife and WOW! At this Riu Guanacaste we saw moths the size of your hand, wild snakes, black Iguanas in the tree's, big green Iguanas by the pool Inc baby green Iguanas oh and a huge 4 foot long Red Iguana! We fed monkeys on the beach, lots of various birds and thousands of beautiful butterflies, the list goes on.... We will use Riu again as they are value for money, My advice to anyone coming here is why are you coming to Costa Rica? We loved it but I see people complaining about the wildlife, this is a beautiful country. Pura Vida _
