Faded and outdated Renovation is ongoing but overdue. It is clear this was once a nice hotel but currently the rooms being used are very dated and basic.Clean comfortable bed but otherwise not well presented. At the time of our visit road works prevented access to the main entrance, unfortunately we were not advised of this and had a long walk to reception with very heavy luggage. Good location for city visit.

You get what you pay for - but can't beat the location Can't beat the location but the parking is less than ideal. Guest room had seen better days and wasn't particularly clean. I'm used to being able to check out from your tv but that wasn't an option. Person at front desk upon checkout was really new or something, it took ages and I still don't know whether we have been charged correctly. We'd asked to split the bill onto two cards and it was like it was the first time it had ever been requested. Ended up charging mine the full amount with a "promise" that they would fix it in a few days...anyway, I'm not a fussy person in general. But I would say this is a 3 star hotel. Best thing about it is being able to walk to the harbourfront.

They broke my luggage. They broke my luggaI recently stayed at The Barrington Hotel at 1875 Barrington St, Halifax, Canada, and it was a terrible experience from start to finish. Upon arrival, the staff were rude and unhelpful. My luggage was mishandled and ended up broken, which caused me a lot of stress and inconvenience. The room was not clean, and the amenities were lacking. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Save yourself the trouble and stay elsewhere.

Loved the location. Beware of parking inconvenience. We (senior couple) stayed in room 167 for 2 nights. It was a 2 double bed room with 2 lounge chairs and a desk with rolling chair. It was a little crowded but we still appreciated having that furniture. Our primary reasons for booking The Barrington were the pool, walkable proximity to the harbour front area and Nova Scotia Art Museum and a reasonable price for its location. The pool was on the same floor as our room so that was very convenient. The room was clean, beds comfortable and the bathroom large. We appreciated its long counter space. The heat/cooling system was quiet and efficient. We had a breakfast at Tempo. The restaurant is bright, service fast and friendly and has a complete menu so you can have a big or small meal. Our preferred coffee, cappuccino, was excellent. Check-in/out service was friendly, fast and efficient. The only negative to this hotel is the parking, (cost extra) which is in a multi-floor parkade building beside. The entrance is difficult, especially at rush hour, due to major construction in the area. The Barrington Street, pull-up-lane at the front entrance was not accessible so you could not drop passengers or luggage there. Pedestrian use of the entrance was still available. The hotel provided multiple alerts and detailed instruction for navigating all this disruption on days prior to our arrival. We are reasonable fit so the hike (indoor mall type area) from the parking spot to the hotel lobby was not a bother for us but some people would be annoyed by this. We did not use the vehicle once it was parked as we preferred to walk to attractions close by. We would recommend this hotel but with the caution about the parking.

Disappointing all around Pros: Central location, clean Cons: Everything else. - Parking is a 10 minute walk away, and we had to pass through a shopping center that was deserted apart from a mouse. Parking is also CA$26 per day, which is not included in the room. - The rooms are quite dated. Ours had torn and peeling wallpaper, and the cheap wooden furniture was chipped and scratched. - There's a restaurant in the lobby, but breakfast is not included and room service isn't offered. The restaurant opens too late for anyone with an earlyish flight. - The hotel advertises that it has laundry, but it's a service with a 24 hour turnaround, so anyone staying only one night can't use it. - Beware the security deposit. I don't use credit cards, so they charged me a $250 deposit, after initially claiming I couldn't pay with cash. The shift manager had to be called, and he said he would "trust me for now". They charged my friend using a credit card a $150 fee, so the extra deposits are clearly policy. When I checked out, they had the audacity to make me wait while they inspected my room to see if they would return my deposit. I was treated better at youth hostels 30 years ago. You can do far better for not much more. Skip the Barrington.
