A horrible stay in a very expensive room! We came to stay for a single night and the room was dirty! We waited beyond the check in time and had been sat in reception for over an hour as the rest of our family was able to check in early, we kept getting the same response.. it won’t be long! At 4.20pm we then qued again as we were now advised it was ready. When we finally got to the room there was dirty used towels flung over the radiator in the bathroom and tissues that looked used slung back into the tissue box, food crumbs on the floor and the bedding was all messed up, we then questioned if the room had in fact been cleaned from the previous guests. The bath was surrounded by black mould and the water was freezing! The room itself was really cold and even with the heating on it wasn’t any better. We were already told there was no other rooms available while we were sat in the reception waiting so we didn’t even bother trying to asked to be moved, my husband was feeling poorly but as it was my mum in laws 60th birthday celebration he didn’t want to miss the plans we had later in the evening so he just wanted to sleep so we didn’t say anything until we checked out the next day. We were then offered a £15 refund for the parking we’d had to pay for which in itself is a joke when the car park isn’t monitored and there was about 20 cars that had parked across 2 bays meaning there was limited places in the already small car park! This wasn’t good enough, my husband rang the hotel for a better response only to be waiting and chasing to speak with a manager for 10 days! And then offered a reduced stay for another time.. we definitely won’t be returning and I think it’s absolutely disgusting that we couldn’t even have a partial refund for a very very expensive nights stay when the room was absolutely disgusting! We are still waiting on a better response from management but are fed up of waiting! Avoid and use the premier inn next door! Much cleaner and cheaper!

Disappointed return visit A return visit to this hotel. We loved it last time, 2 years ago. Slightly disappointed to be honest. Firstly, the car park isn't big enough, which doesn't create a good impression. Reception staff were amazing though, and very helpful. Our room wasn't particularly impressive, with lamps that didn't work, and a bathroom in desperate need of repairs! Bed was extremely comfortable though! Bar downstairs is amazing!

Pleasant stay, but overall experience needs to be better for a hotel of this standard. We stayed at this hotel on a Christmas Package. Restaurant and food/meals have been covered in a separate Review of the Carters Grill/Restaurant. Our booking did not start on a positive note. When booking by telephone, (due to issues with the website process), the hotel somehow charged the costs twice to a credit card, resulting in the card getting blocked. In fairness our room booking was upgraded as recompense. Our early arrival meant that our room was not ready, but we did not find the receptionist very friendly, appearing to "process" rather than "welcome" us. I also resent the "holding" charge on a credit card, that appears to be becoming standard at large hotels. The delay with our room was not a "big deal" as we could have afternoon tea, which was part of our package. Our room was good, although only one glass had been provided for our complimentary bottle of wine, and the hair conditioner bottle in the shower was virtually empty. We also found the room rather dark due to the lack of a ceiling light, making it difficult to read. I would add that the Majestic Hotel is not alone in this. The single glazed windows do result in condensation, but this may of course be related to the status of the building. Our check out by the same staff member also felt like a "process". Finally, although we did not use the facility, I believe that a charge of £15 per night for car parking, on top of an expensive package is outrageous. Overall the stay was pleasant, but there were too many "niggling" issues to warrant a higher than "Average" rating.

1st Christmas getaway This was our 1st trip away for Christmas. Arrived Monday 23rd Dec till 27th Was late getting our room so a lot of hanging around but we did enjoy the food we had in Frederick's bar while waiting we did get a complimentary drink for the wait. Our room was lovely only down side was no control to turn heating up or down. We paid £120 each for Christmas dinner the food was nice but was really disappointed that there was no Christmas atmosphere at all,the tables was just like any other day but with a cracker it's just the little things that make a difference. Our overall stay was OK but we won't be going back

Betwixtmas in Harrogate Lovely hotel, room great, staff attentive, a la carte menu in the restaurant had a wide range of meat/fish/vegetarian dishes. Spa very good. Definitely recommend, don’t pay any attention to any negative reviews. The town is lovely AND Knaresborough which is just a bus ride away is a must.
