Stoney Creek Hotel Des Moines - Johnston

Noisy...no sleep Don't expect to sleep well. Been there twice...noisy. this time picked the cottages because there's not supposed to be dogs or kids. Had a dark barking next door all night. Asked to be moved, but was told no extra rooms even though the parking lot was half full. Getting a little run down from years ago too.

Disappointing return to Stoney Creek A lot of changes since pre-covid. That is how long it's been since our last stay at Stoney Creek Cottages. Celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and was excited to stay in one of the theme suites. First room we were put in, the A/C was set at 64 degrees and it was 78 upon entering the room. The room was very damp and humid. I requested another theme suite. Was put in the "golf" suite. We had stayed there many times over the years. Room was cool but upon further inspection the ceiling fan would not work, there was very evident water damage on the ceiling and tiles missing in the shower and not clean. Many other small things that concerned us, including plastic knobs/buttons missing from switches, etc. I went to front desk and asked for a theme suite in main building but was told they were booked. I asked for a cancellation of our reservation and for manager to call me the next day. Also noticed that they no longer serve breakfast at the cottages, only in main building. The area where they did serve breakfast looked abandoned and unfinished, just left as is. I received a call from Leo the next day and he seemed very surprised at what we described in our room. I was told that a long term customer stays in that room at least 2-3 times a week and has never mentioned any issues???? Never received an apology or an invite back so i doubt we will come back. This is sad because of how ran down the property seems. This was our "go to" for many years before covid and was hoping it could be again. Maybe the main building's rooms are in better condition but i sure wouldn't recommend the cottages. Leo did say he was going to look for himself at the condition of the suite but i never did hear back.

Great place to stay The bed was divine, the hot tub so relaxing and the breakfast was actual real food! I fell fast asleep on the super comfy bed. The staff was polite and helpful. I’ve not stayed in a Stoney Creek hotel before and this is now going to be my go to! Thanks for a great stay!

Great Place Great place. Cozy and perfect for us. Staff super friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again. Did not really use the free breakfast so can’t say much about that. Loved proximity to downtown. Far enough away but close enough to be easy.

Room cleaning will be done by 6 pm I requested room cleaning service in the morning, but the room was not cleaned until 1:30 PM. I called the front desk again, but the staff said it would be cleaned according to their schedule and would be done by 6 PM. I was hoping to do my online meeting in my room in the afternoon. I just hope their cleaning staff do not come during my meeting.
