Immaculate rooms, newly updated This hotel is an incredible value. The rooms have all been renovated and are contemporary and well appointed. Easy beach access and a great restaurant across the street. There is ice water provided all day (something that is very important to me) and the breakfast was extensive (less important to me but I could tell people were enjoying it.) They even have ice bags for sale in the lobby so you can stock your beach-day cooler easily! Housekeeping was excellent and our room was cleaned mid-stay. We will definitely be back!

Great oceanfront hotel It is an older hotel but very well maintained. Our room was great and had a retro vibe to it. It was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Everything in the room was in good working order with no complaints except for a squeaky bathroom door. The breakfast was more than adequate (waffles, hard boiled eggs, breads and pastries, cereal, fruit and excellent coffee). Room 114 was across from the pool and had a small kitchen. We loved being able to walk to the ocean from the observation deck. We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Outer Banks.

Inflexible Massive flooding in the Carolinas ruined our recent trip, every place we booked was reasonable in understanding our predicament, except this one. Yes, by the letter of the law they had every right to hold us to our reservation and not refund us, but if this is the level of understanding they displayed then not only am I glad we didn't stay there but we won't consider them next time, and there will be a next time.

Run down First let me explain that we've stayed at John Yancey grew up staying here as children with our parents and continued staying with our own children now. We've noticed through time the hotel has become a rundown chantey in need of repair and upgrades. We booked our stay 365 days in advance for a certain room and were assured we'd have it, we actually called 30 days out to confirm the room and promised we'd get it but did not, we were lied to. But we stayed anyway the week of August 19-25. To begin with the sliding glass door in the room would barely slide open or closed due to not being maintained regularly too difficult for the children to open or close and not one day did the ice machines ever work, complete hassle to walk to the office for a bucket of ice. The roof over us is in dire need of repair and dripped on the balcony, parking is not policed at all and became a hassle as people not staying in the hotel would park on the hotel property to go to the beach, swim in the pool and we're even eating breakfast in the breakfast room there. We are sorry but we'll be spending our vacation money at the Ramada Inn or Holiday Inn Express from now on.

Totally awesome hotel experience 2 years in a row! This was me and my wife’s 2nd visit in 2 years. We came back this summer (with our dog) because we loved it so much the first time. This year we splurged for an oceanfront room and all I can say is WOW! We had an even better stay this time around. Easy access to a beautiful beach, it was a little paradise. At night we’d walk our dog along the beach which he absolutely loved. The room itself had a view second to none. And the furnishings went well with the area. It’s centrally located too and easy to get to anything you wanna do in the OBX. There’s a Harris teeter right up the road and a Starbucks and dozens of awesome restaurants. We loved it so much we’re talking of organizing a family reunion next summer and recommending the JYI as the hotel we all stay at. I CANNOT stress to y’all how wonderful this place is. If you’re on the fence just book here, and if you can get an oceanfront room, you will not regret it!
