Shutters on the Banks is DELIGHTFUL! This lovely hotel is quaint but roomy! We had a family gathering and had multiple rooms. There are so many rooms to choose from! We loved being right on the beach and I loved walking every day. Wonderful sunrise views! And the check in and breakfast nook are so delightfully decorated! The staff was superb! Free hot breakfast every day! We gathered in the sitting area across from check in and had wonderful family conversations and laughter! It was close to so many OBX activities and dining! We will DEFINITELY be back!

Don’t Let Architecture Fool Ya - this is a Gem! On the outside Shutters looks like one of those concrete bunker hotels which ruin many a seashore. Whatever the virtues of concrete in the Hurricane zone of the outer banks one could wish for a more eye pleasing take on the substance . But forget the concrete aside - these rooms are a gem ! The one we stayed in was completely updated in subtle sea tones and white woodwork - spotless- with new carpets, new beds, perfect furnishings, a cozy separate sitting room with its own TV, cable with all the channels, terrific bed, large fine bathroom with big walk in shower, excellent linens and a terrific sea view with a good sized balcony. The whole vibe of the rooms is higher end Cape Cos or Island townhouse on the shore . Totally relaxing feeling . We stayed two nights - right in the center near the Wright Bros national park which is a great tour - perfect to explore points north to Duck and south to Hatteras. Also decent breakfast though not lavish included - cereals good coffee muffins bagels eggs sausage and waffles - could do with plain yoghurt without the sugar and bananas but nothing to complain about at all Also nice small pool for kids. For serious lap swimmers visit the Outer Banks YMCA which has dedicated lap swim hours six lanes 25 meters with fins and kick boards 15 dollars per guest visit well worth it. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back

This place couldn't have a more appropriate name!! This place couldn't have a more appropriate name, as it, and the property next to it was a construction zone. The pool was Shuttered (closed, no water in it) our A/C was broken for two days, an they had to replace it, they were doing construction on the hotel, but the worst was being woken up daily at 630am by bucket loaders, dump trucks, and a cacophony of hammers from the building 15 feet from our Room. the hotel management did nothing to alleviate the issue, accommodate us, and did nothing to call the police or the town building department to enforce the town noise ordinance. HORRIBLE HOTEL!!!

Just a place for couple of nights We stayed at Shutters to see OBX for the first time and visit the legendary Wright Bros museum. We booked the Ocean View room on the 4th floor which does have an elevator, but it smelled bad. The room was smallish but the sunrise each morning was wonderful. The rooms do not come cheap, cost us $266 a night, as OBX are dotted with hundreds and hundreds of summer rentals but hotels are very limited in number. They make monopoly business. Also, keep in mind that there is a $50 deposit. Breakfast was subpar and the space was cramped, we did not care to go there after the first morning experience. Furthermore, it is a walk from the main building to the reception to have breakfast. Our card key did not work on the second day, we had to go to the reception to reactivate. We were told that is the norm. Really, even after paying for two nights in one go? Among the positives are its proximity to the Wright Bros museum and the wonderful lady at the reception. Would I book Shutters again? I would rather explore other options first, including the rentals.

Has Been Better We have stayed here a few times before including pre-covid. This time was fine, but nothing special. The rooms are fine, and the location is great. The cons are the housekeeping. We were never told in booking, confirmation emails, on the website.... that the housekeeping is once every third day. This is tough for a family. Sure, items can be requested from he front desk, but it isn't convenient to have to go down to the desk multiple times daily to get towels or to have to wait for those towels because you need them during check in time and there are three families checking in ahead of you with one person on the desk. The breakfast is also not great. The packaged goods are fine (cereal, oatmeal, grits) but wow the prepared items are gross. The breakfast meats are low quality and basically inedible. The eggs are not natural and seem like a mix they might use in the military or something like that. Plus, the area is small and if you have to sit outside you are fighting the fly infestation on the patio. As far as the housekeeping, Covid is done! No more using that as an excuse. And if the next thing being blamed is the "labor shortage", the answer is pay your team a living wage and you'll get staff.
