A treasure of a place! This place gets 5 rockin' stars!!!
We go to Lake Tahoe often as we are avid skiers, but only this year, due to Covid, have we really explored Tahoe in the summertime without staying at our usual cabin. On a whim, we decided to spend July 4 weekend in Tahoe. We have a small dog, so our options are always already limited. All our usual places in South Lake were sold out, but I did remember driving past this place in Kings Beach many times during the winter. It looked nondescript from my memory of driving past, but their website said lake front, and the prices were reasonable, so I figured - why not?
The registration process was great, easy peasy, I went online, got the pet friendly room that I asked for- I did call and service was prompt and communication was very clear. A friend of mine decided to come along, so I booked a second room and they bent over backwards to get him a pet friendly room as well, though they were officially out of pet friendly rooms, they made an accommodation and that really made my friend's day, who never travels without his dog.
Then we got to the place: Boy, was I in for a huge surprise!! When they said lake front, they meant a private beach, paddleboards and kayaks for free and chaise lounges, too. As expected, the pools were closed (I was well aware of this, and this didn't bother me as I was there for the lake, not the pools- and also this was prominently disclosed on their website before I booked. They also didn't charge a resort fee because of the closure) Rite Aid was right across the street (cold adult beverages, anyone?) There was a pizza and brewery place 10 steps away and a cafe next door. They also have barbecue decks outfitted with gas barbecues, tables, deck chairs and umbrellas. We spent our July 4 dinner on the deck watching the sun go down. The location is THE BOMB. Seriously.
I wish I could have had a lakefront room, the remodeled rooms looked great. Some are literally facing the water with floor to ceiling glass sliding doors. ( But alas, I am used to getting the doggie rooms, and I expected this- this time I got a second floor room facing N Lake Blvd.) If one is travelling without a dog, one should seriously invest in those lake-facing rooms. I peeked and they look amazing!!
Despite getting one of the older rooms, I was most happy with the amenities. Refrigerator, Microwave: I have an insulin-dependent dog, so the fridge was a MUST-HAVE to keep the insulin chilled. I also love toast in the morning and I have my own diet restricted bread- and they provided me a toaster. I was happy as a clam with the toaster!! Also, with Covid and WFH, my work laptop is always with me, and the WIFI as strong!!!!!!!!!!!!
So room, great! Amenities, Great! Lakefront and private beach, GREAT!!! WFH Wifi quality great!
But here is what really stood out. The people are AMAAAAAAAZZZZZZZING. Marietta was who I dealt with on the phone first, then had the chance to speak with Gabriel. I mean, these folks are top notch. The demeanor, courtesy and the desire to help is better than the service I ever received from the Mandarin Orientals and the Hiltons of the world. Gabriel checked us in and he remembered my name, as if he were expecting a treasured repeat guest. (Actually, he remembered my name all throughout my stay. And so did Marietta. ) And here I am like, floored. Remember I was expecting a motel atmosphere, I'm getting the Ritz Carlton treatment.
I'm quite well-travelled, so this had me thinking, who is running this place??? The business cards were everywhere: Melissa Dooley, General Manager. I grabbed her card and tucked it away. I was meaning to write in.
Anyway, on our third and last day of our stay, my mind was made up. I was coming back. And soon. So even before I had even checked out, I went to the office, and booked another stay. Tami helped me, and she created a warm experience too, so friendly and sincere. So I asked Tami who Melissa Dooley was, I wanted to compliment the staff- it turns out she was the lovely lady I had just been speaking with about the paddleboards, she looked so young and I know that probably irks her (haha)- but what a pleasant delight to see that the person running the place was a young capable, kick-butt woman- it is clear that she sets the tone for the team.
This place is run like a well-oiled machine. Marietta and Gabriel, exceptional work ethic. Marietta is only 20 years old, and she possesses so much poise. Gabriel is warm, knowledgeable, patient, and so very helpful and gives you the five-star treatment. Tami knows her stuff and insists on an island vibe! The overarching energy here that you can tell from how the place is run, is the LEADERSHIP. So Melissa, way to go. You have me and my troop as fans for life.
My only ask: please, as you remodel the rooms, please do keep some rooms pet friendly, we would love to keep coming to visit this amazing place - so please stay dog friendly!!!
To whoever is Melissa's boss, whether a person, a trust or an LLC- I have to tell you, this manager, this team, they are amazing. I will be back, (already booked!) because of the lake (Love the lake and your convenient lakefront location), the amenities (I paddleboard!) and most of all, the team. Five stars!!!
