A very solid 4.5 So here we are again. We are Big Island residents and this has become our favorite staycation when we can get a kamaina rate. This weekend was spent on the beach which is magnificent. Why not a 5? Dining is uninspired and hard to get a reservation, crowded beach chair area, and some obnoxious tourists. Staff awesome but overwhelmed. Still, if what you want is gorgeous beach without higher end resort frills, not to say this isn’t quite nice, you’ll love it.

Pacific Dreams Photography We cannot recommend working with Cynthia at Pacific Dreams Photography, enough. She was able to effortlessly manage our large group, which included six adults, and six younger children, for a sunset photo shoot at the Mauna Kea. From start to finish, she managed with professionalism, organization, and an especially wonderful attitude working with and engaging our children. In addition, we were thrilled with the results of the photo shoot, and so happy to be able to have such a memorable momento from our trip with our family. We would highly recommend using the services at Pacific Dreams to document your trip! Allison & Justin Gagnon

Pre-arrival service is top notch! I will update this review once we check-out and full disclosure, we haven’t even checked-in (yet). I’ve read A LOT of reviews regarding how busy Hawaiian hotels are and knew we needed to do a lot of pre-planning by way of reservations for pretty much everything. This takes several phone calls, voicemails and emails to hotel staff and the Mauna Kea staff has been incredibly helpful. You know these staff members have been with this hotel for many years and they’ve never experienced this level of surge occupancy, yet their aloha spirit is evident in every communication exchange leading up to arrival. Looking forward to experiencing the same level of service on-site!

Wonderful stay on the BEST beach - Mahalo to the staff We have returned from a 6 day stay at this special hotel on magical Mauna Kea Beach. Staff from the concierge and valet to housekeeping to the pool were unfailingly gracious, efficient, effective, and welcoming - under incredibly difficult circumstances of a PACKED hotel (and island) in post-COVID vacation season. As many have noted, there is a Mad Dash of guests to the beach chairs at the crack of doom, and many inconsiderate people monopolize the front row seats without actually occupying them. That's a PEOPLE problem, not a hotel problem - they are not going to waste precious staff time teaching Angelenos to grow up and get some manners. More inconsiderate people chew out the restaurant staff - you must have a reservation, period. GET OVER IT! problem, not a hotel problem! Make dinner reservations, there are plenty of lovely chairs on the lawn or in the 3rd beach row - get over it and enjoy this spectacular, welcoming, beautiful place. And tip generously.

Terrible experience Terrible service, food, and rude staff. Staff are unprofessional and arrogant. Dated hotel and rooms. Rooms are noisy, and service slow everywhere. The beach is nice, but thats about it. Avoid at all costs
