1970s style decor and ambience I needed a place to stay close to Union Station after arriving at LAX and needing to take Amtrak east the next day. Metro Plaza Hotel was the place - walking distance from Union Station. The hotel itself is desperately in need of remodeling. The hotel lobby is very tired and has a flophouse vibe. A security guard lets you in. The floors are marked with dirt and old wild paper. Carpets are frayed. Signs on the wall have mispellings and the Spanish translations are barely comprehensible. Once I got to the room though, I found a very comfortable bed and working A/c. The bathroom has old tile and even a push button telephone next to the toilet. There's a TV but surprising it is in working order and has lots of channels. Cost was $135 a night plus tax. This would be a great hotel for a 1970s crime show. I kept thinking that Starsky and Hutch or Sargeant Joe Friday going to knock on the door = flash their badge and ask me - Give me the facts sir. Sadly it is no longer 1974 but 2024. Still this old bird has character - no Best Western nor Hilton for me. I like historic old flophouses with style Bonus is the Philippe's Restaurant one block away - great French Dip sandwiches.

Thank you great service and hotel. Just checked out of the hotel and the staff are perfect they watched are bags all day and not like other places did not charge us. We arrived late on Tuesday night and the main manager was in reception to welcome us and even gave us a bottle of water each as we looked hot. The room was just redecorated and was perfect and very clean. You can see some areas of this hotel are being re done it did not affect us at all. Felt safe and the cleaning lady’s in every day to change towels and make bed. I would 100% recommend staying at this hotel it is 3 min walk from the station and that means excellent transport links to all the places you want to visit. Also most of the public transport is free. Thank you from John and Mary for a great stay.

Quality, Comfortable and Reliable Destination for Family Entertainment Experiences Very nice property for leisure travel but found it to be unideal as a location to carry out any professional activities due to missing amenities that would be conducive to the freestyle idea-ating necessary to accomplish the objectives that were established for mini-conferences and the sort that would keep business activities on track and avoid distractions that could result in investment of time and energy on topics and issues that were most definitely not in scope

Great location, great staff— but one night is enough. Metro Plaza is in perfect, easy walking distance location for Old LA Olvera Street (don’t miss the Avila Adobe), Philippe’s famous restaurant, and Union Station. It was ok for a one-night stay. I hope the review below gives an idea of what to expect. I felt safe walking around in the day, but. fwould not walk here after dark. Half of the hotel is recently renovated with new corridor carpet and modern rooms. Front desk people, including manager, are excellent and helpful. Despite being busy with several foreign tour groups, the staff remained patient and gracious. Lobby is very basic, with nowhere to sit. There’s a big screen of security camera views, and a security guard by the elevator, but axcard key is not required to open the elevator door. this might be a good safety, security measure— seen in many big-city hotels— for this hotel to add A week before arriving, I spoke with the manager, requested a recently renovated room, and got one. But the window looked out to a barbed-wire topped wall! I asked if possible to switch to a room facing the beautiful old post office and Union Station, but the receptionist said the hotel was full, with the one available room reeked of cigarette smoke, despite the hotel following “no smoking” policy! My room was large, bed was comfortable. There’s a large TV, mini fridge but no microwave. There’s a very large desk/shelf area and two hammocks to sit on. The bathroom was newly renovated, with an oddly placed rain- shower in the center of the shower-enclosure ceiling rather than the wall, which made it impossible to escape getting drenched hair. Unless you want a shampoo, bring a shower cap. The water temperature control faucet in the shower starts hot in “on” vertical position, and gets colder as you turn it to the left, which you can do only to 1/4 turn— different from standard shower controls. Bath towels were small, thin and scratchy—I suspect to avoid any temptation for towel thieves. Likewise, there’s an in-room ironing board, but no iron. For that, you go to the lobby and give your drivers license or cash deposit and borrow an iron. If I again had a morning Amtrak train to board, I’d stay at Metro Plaza knowing its quirks and limitations. —

HOTEL HELL HOTEL HELL. Hotel is undergoing renovations (long overdue as looks shabby). Construction noises. Dust. Fumes. Creaky floorboards. Tremors. Hotel security is non-existent. At check-in, homeless guy asked me to buy him dinner + creepy old male hotel guest told me his room number so I could visit his hotel room. Ignored both requests. Ended up at another (nice) hotel (Best Western Dragon Gate on Hill St).
