Nice....Wouldn't Consider 5 Star Underwhelming considering the steep price tag in relation to other accommodation in the area. Hotel does deliver on the basics. It is also extremely secure. Closed I received an email about a week ago saying my reservation has been canceled. I made the reservation back in April '19 for a stay in late Sept. No explanation was given, but I heard from another source that the hotel closed a few months ago. Thankfully, I did not pay in advance.

Old elegance What a beautifull old hotel! It speaks of elegance in times gone by. It seems a little in need of attention - especially outside! The service was great and the food that we had very tasty! The only negative is the Zoo that is atteched to the hotel - but I do not like zoos and this is not my scene! I think some money needs to be spent on renovating the outside neglected areas.

Faded glory Definitely a resort that has seen better days. We checked in on time however had to wait 1 hour until the room was ready. We walked down several long corridors without seeing anyone (no staff, no guests, no muzak) which should have been a clue at the run down state of things. Many corridors have rooms that are simply locked off to any guests. The main pool area was shut and so we swam in the smaller pool. After eating at a nearby restaurant, we returned for an early night. At 2:00 am, we were awoke by doors slamming and screaming. I was so scared to look into the hallway, I called down to the Front Desk and said they needed to send someone down to investigate. Between my broken Portuguese and their lack of English, I made out that they had a group of guests check in late and they did not seem concerned at the screaming?! In any event, I did not sleep another wink and by 5:00 am was packed and eager to leave. The breakfast buffet they put out looked quite good but I had no appetite. I can't say that I have ever felt so scared/vulnerable in a hotel before.

Has seen better times The best way to summarize my experience is: 20 years ago this place must have been absolutely amazing. I walked around the hotel complex and was impressed. Huge pool area, tennis courts, shopping center, zoo, huge corridors... today unfortunately its run down. Rooms are clean and spacey but this can not compensate the decay in most other areas. The hotel is clean. Its just huge, feels completely empty and needs a big remodeling. Service was good - not excellent.
