As Delta Variant Spreads, Marriott ignores the CDC’s & WHO’s Most Current Recommendations regarding Masking! We are long-time members of the Marriott Rewards Club, now Bonvoy, and were very disappointed to discover that Marriott Corp. is NOT following the CDC’s new indoor mask guidance as the delta variant fuels a surge in COVID cases that is affecting both vaccinated and unvaccinated people. While not yet a mandate in NYS, the CDC’s current recommendations are that masks be worn indoors by both vaccinated and unvaccinated people in public in areas of substantial or high transmission. This hotel is located in an area with a “high level of community transmission,” yet, neither staff nor guests were wearing masks in public places and I frankly, felt unsafe when an unmasked employee came to our room to bring us a new room key (at our request). Unfortunately, this raises the question as to whether “providing a safer environment for guests and associates” really is a “top priority” to Marriott Corp. Further, the bathroom in our room had a significant amount of someone else’s hair on the bathroom floor, raising still more concern about Marriott’s commitment to providing a clean and safe environment during a pandemic. This hotel also seems to be a popular wedding venue. On the night of our arrival, a large wedding was taking place near our rooms. There were many drunk, unmasked people congregating in close proximity at a crowded bar and the noise level in our rooms made it impossible to sleep, even with ear plugs. The beds were uncomfortably soft and mattresses seem to be in need of replacement. To the hotel’s credit, the front desk was responsive to our second complaint regarding the condition of our bathroom and moved us to a quieter, clean room, which we greatly appreciate. If you are uncomfortable staying in a hotel where masks are extraordinarily rare in public spaces, I suggest you stay elsewhere. If you are not worried about the Delta variant but don’t want to be kept up by loud parties, be sure to get a room on a high floor that is an exterior room. I am extremely disappointed that Marriott Bonvoy has chosen to ignore the most current recommendations of the CDC and WHO and has not reimplemented masking for all in public areas. Bonvoy will no longer be my automatic go-to.

Reliable Marriott Hotel with... a little construction Part of the hotel was undergoing some construction. However, the staff was fantastic, the concierge lounge was great and convenient. The rooms were comfortable and roomy. Would stay again when visiting long island. The lobby restaurant and bar was also a nice feature.

Doesn't meet Marriott Standards We stayed for a week at this very central location after traveling for a month. We understand that housekeeping staffs are still small due to the pandemic, but this is very poorly managed. We were told at check-in (after asking) that we would have to request housekeeping every day. We did this, often more than once, yet we only had housekeeping show up 2 times in the 7 days we were there. Like other guests, we were chasing the housekeeping carts to request clean towels. The clean linens were stained, something I never see at a hotel. Guest services was very sorry but never fixed this scheduling issue. The toilet was grossly loud and it would take 3 flushes just to flush toilet paper. We requested that it be looked at twice but again, no one ever showed to fix this problem. The parking lot is tree covered and poorly lit which made us uncomfortable at night. We never saw any security patrolling the lot. We did speak with Nick, the manager, who refused to give me his last name and made it clear that he didn't care. I think he puts the front desk staff in the position of having to continually lie to their guests. Housekeeping was always polite and did a good job when they actually showed. We will not stay here again. Save yourself an overpriced, unpleasant stay.

Third time isn’t a charm As an Ambassador with Marriott I judge hotel service fairly and appropriately for the level where it falls. Fairfield, you’re on your own, Courtyard you have a bit more options, Marriott should be on the higher end and at JW or Ritz there is a level of personal support one would expect. I just checked into my 150th night of the year at the beginning of a two week trip around the northeast US. I had to come back to the same area four times on this trip so decided to stay at the same hotel for familiarity. I shipped my work equipment out as I was arriving via another trip. When I checked in there was a wedding and so the line was great and check in slow. I get it, however when I returned later to get my bag that was shipped in, I was asked if I wanted the charge put on my room. I said sure, so, for a $5.60 charge to “hold” my bag for three days prior to my arrival, this hotel has assured me that I will not stay here again. I will honor my four stays I have booked, but something as small as this to cause me to decide to stay across from my largest customer just shows how “pound foolish and penny wise their policy is.” When I asked if I could ship in my bag I was not given this information. So, I’ll spend $1000 this week for the second time staying here, but they won’t get a dollar more. The front door was broken, the room smelled, not enough staff and so I’ll find a new Long Island hotel to stay at. That said, Jerimias in the restaurant was a refreshing change to the lack of service and support the rest of the hotel didn’t provide.

Father's Day weekend stay We stayed at the Marriott Melville for two nights during Father's Day weekend. Although we didn't encounter any major problems, I wouldn't stay in this hotel again. The front desk clerk that checked us in was unfriendly; offering no attempt to make us feel welcome. There is no breakfast included in the price of the room (which is not cheap). The breakfast at the Hotel restaurant is $20/person. There was no microwave in the room. The layout of our room was unfortunate, as there was a hallway on both sides of the room, so it felt like there was no privacy. On top of that, the rooms are not very well soundproofed. You hear everything that people are saying when they pass by. The last night of our stay I called the front desk and asked for an extra blanket, which I was told they didn't have. I was offered "couple sheets" and the housekeeper showed up one hour later with one regular sheet and one fitted sheet. Try to cover yourself with that one!
