Not Ideal We were a bit disappointed in the Colton Inn. The reviews are glowing and the photos seemed promising. Here's the things that marred the experience. • When entering our room, there was a huge stain on the carpet right inside the door. Whether this was a coffee spill, pet stain a crime scene was the question. It made me question how clean everything was in the room. • The mattress was über soft, too soft. Laying on it created a canyon that attracted all bodies. It was not a great night of sleep. • Parking is tight, very tight. Even the entrance and exit for the parking lot are very narrow. If you are driving anything more than a compact, it will be tight. Also, they have more rooms than spaces. We did like that it was centrally located but away from the hubbub. It was also far enough from the ocean that we were not bothered by the million sea otters barking near Fisherman's Wharf. The Colton Inn is also half of what the big chains are charging in Monterey. That considered, we probably would not stay here again.

Within walking distance of everything. Would stay here again Stayed for 2 nights on the way from Solvang to Calistoga. A nice inn, walking distance to shops, restaurants, Cannery Row, Fisherman’s Wharf and Aquarium. Excellent recommendation from Reception for restaurant for dinner - Sandbar Grill - so good we went there both nights. Nice, clean room, good bathroom. First in room coffee free, then $1 each thereafter. May bother some, but not us. Morning coffee in lobby anyway. Free, simple breakfast. Toast your own bread, waffles. Boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt, mini doughnuts. Would stay here again if in Monterey.

Ideal Hotel My experience with staying two nights at the Colton Inn was totally positive. Upon arrival from the friendly greeting at the front desk, to a courteous departure. The room was quiet, although situated in downtown Monterey. Because of the ideal location, I was able to easily walk throughout the historic area to Fisherman's Wharf. Excellent restaurants are plentiful as well as shopping. The cleanliness of the room, the extremely comfortable bed, the glowing fireplace and view of the vegetation all added together making my visit to Monterey all the more memorable. I highly recommend Colton Inn.

Our favorite place to stay in Monterey. We love staying at the Colton Inn! This is our favorite place to stay in Monterey. It’s in a quiet location, with lots of trees and a small brook running through the back of the property. The room is clean and spacious with a comfortable bed. The Inn is easy walking distance to downtown and the wharf. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Great historical location Hotel was clean, comfortable, fairly priced. Employees were friendly. Location is excellent- easy walking distance from Fisherman’s Wharf, manageable walk to Cannery Row, about 1 block from Colton Hall/City Hall/Friendly Plaza (beautiful little park with historical markers and buildings that were an important part of California history). I would definitely return to this hotel.
