Lovely hotel with great staff Portola is a lovely hotel, beautiful, open, close to Fisherman's wharf and restaurants. All the staff was wonderful and friendly. Jacks restaurant was yummy, Peter Bs brewery had a great patio, nice menu, fire pits. Beware, it is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday which was a bummer. Pool and hot tub is in a different building across the plaza, looked nice but we never used it. Our room was very nice, fridge, small balcony with sliding glass door and shutters to get fresh ocean air and hear sounds of the ocean, It is not on the water but very close. I would recommed this hotel!

Perfect location Hotel is located central to many tourist activities. We walked everywhere, including to the warf and aquarium.

Clean but expensive. We booked the Executive King on the 7th floor. Room was clean but sparsly decorated and nothing more than a standard room. The online pictures are deceiving and you cannot open a window for fresh air. The major benefit is this hotel is centerally located within everything. Cannery Row is a mile walk and the wharf and Alvarado Street are nearby. The price was high and what the website doesn't show is the 30% tax added at the end. There are better options nearby for a better price. The one major negative was Peter B's pub that is attached. Food and service was a dump. There are lots of options within a block or two so don't waste your time with the restaurant.

Loved this hotel Loved this hotel, despite a poor quality of the receptionist. Be minded that some rooms are located in different building near the main property. Also, parking cost 22$ a day.

A lovely small hotel If you search a hotel with a friendly staff and nearby downtown - you are right here. Just the rooms could be a bit modern and the restaurant in the hotel is still not opened.
