Top marks for clean, comfortable hotel stay My one night stay at Hotel Universel Montreal was perfectly comfortable! Slept like a baby in the very cozy king bed in a darkened room. Easy to control the temperature in the room, handy bar fridge, hotel information book. The room was very clean. Well appointed bathroom. Very pleasant staff at front desk and the little shop. And a super convenient location with free self-parking which is hard to come by in Montreal. My only tiny complaint - the entry doors to the hotel rooms bang closed quite loudly when people enter/exit at any time of day or night. But that may be more on guests not being as considerate as they could be : ) Unfortunately I didn't have time to make use of the onsite pools and restaurant so no comment there.

Great hotel and experience! This was a lovely hotel and I would definitely recommend it. Reception was welcoming and very friendly-gave us tips on how to get to the Old Port. We even got an early check-in, which we really appreciated (I called when we got into Montreal and asked). We got a room with 2 double beds, hardwood floors and standing shower. The room was clean and spacious. We easily moved the beds together to configure the room to our liking. The room was renovated, and I'd recommended spending a few extra dollars and asking for the comfort room. The air conditioning worked well, and the room was nice and cool at night. Good tv channels-my husband was able to watch the soccer games. The hotel has an indoor pool and outdoor pool with loungers. It was so lovely being able to swim outdoors in the evening. We ordered takeout from the restaurant and got a burger and fried. The food was delicious! Enormous helping of fries and a fresh, juicy burger. There is parking on site, which is free. The parking lot is huge. We were easily able to walk to the biodome and the close by museums and planetarium from the hotel (5 minute walk). The subway was a max 10min walk. We are so happy we picked this hotel for our visit. Thank you!

Key Cards I was happy with the room overall. However there were a couple complaints. The cards to get into your room kept needing to be reprogramed. Very annoying when you get to your room and have to go back to the lobby and wait in line, and theres only one person working and one elevator. We stayed 4 nights and had to reprogram the cards at least 5 times. Also, a beer with a modest tip was $15 at the bar

It's just OK It is quite outdated, with washrooms not so private and double beds too short for my husband and our son. We are used to queen beds in hotels, so it was quite a surprise having to sleep with our feet sticking out. The shower was loud and not user-friendly, leaking in all directions when turned on. Paid a total 220.00 for one night. I need to add that it is over 20 min out of the city centre. The only plus was that we could have our dog with us (for only 40$ extra) and the park was right across the street.

Not worth the money! Absolutely NOT worth the $$ for this place. We stayed here for a family wedding in the area. Paid almost $700 for 2 nights for a room that would normally cost max $150/night. Basic standard sub par rooms. Don’t expect to much! My sister and cousin paid $30/night LESS than me bc they got a KING bed. We had 2 doubles bc our grandsons were staying in the room with us and paid more?? Ever seen this before. Absolutely ridiculous! My son in the room down the hall found a cockroach on top of the mini fridge. So buyer beware.
