My favorite place My family and I have been coming here for over ten years, this place is so special to us! Not only is the staff like family, the property is breathtaking. You won’t find anything else like it in the world. The direct access to the ocean and the privacy of this property is unlike any other. There is a lot to do at the property itself and also in the area. It is a wonderful place for families and couples!

Won’t Stay Anywhere Else in Negril This was my fourth visit to Negril and first time staying at Tensing Pen. I won’t look anywhere else in the future. It was the perfect stay. A beautiful property and great staff. The property is nicely spread out with plenty of seating by the ocean. The bar/drinks were fantastic as was the food. It was really hard to leave the property sometimes, but we wanted to explore a little bit. Stayed here with 2 other couples for my girlfriend’s birthday and I could not recommend staying here enough. You will read comments about the boats going to Rick’s being a big disturbance - they really are not and pass by very briefly. I actually find them quite entertaining.

Extremely chill vibe!! Tensing Pen never disappoints. Beautiful property, super friendly and accommodating staff, and a great newly expanded bar and restaurant. The rooms are uniquely decorated with local flair and the beds are super comfy! Been there many times and look forward to our next visit! __

Unsafe practices and not a safe hotel for families I do not recommend this hotel. They have shady business practices and put me and my 8 year old son in a dangerous situation where we felt very uncomfortable and were afraid. The resort recommended a setup a snorkel boat tour for us. It was a horrific experience. The hotel negotiated a rate for us and let us know we could pay with a credit card on site with the vendor. Our driver came to pick us up and drove us to a spot on the beach. We went on the boat tour. The guides didn't know the names of the ocean wildlife - one of them told me I was wrong and that the stingray I saw was in fact an eel (??). Upon returning to the water, one of the guides took our backpack and moved quickly towards the shore. I got my kid off the boat, followed him, and reached out for my backpack. He refused to return the backpack until I tipped him and "his three boys." I was firm and told him he needed to return my backpack, he finally did. We were in the hot sun and I asked where I could pay the vendor. They said I could pay cash on the spot. I reminded them that we had agreed I could pay with credit card. They laughed and said "Oh no we don't take credit card. But we'll take cash app or paypal." I did not have cell service and said again that I was told I could pay with credit card. I offered that if he took us back to our hotel, I could get cash. He raised the rate by almost 150% at that point. I reminded him the agreed upon rate. He laughed and said "Not possible." I said, "Please take us back to the resort - we will figure it out there." He said "No. You need to pay us now." At this point my son started to cry and I was nervous as a woman traveling alone. I explained to him we were not able to pay, but we would pay if he would allow us to return to the hotel. He said we would not be returning to the hotel unless we paid. At this point the driver had returned. He said he would take cashapp, which I reiterated I do not have (even if I had cell service - I don't have it). He setup a wifi hotspot, which made me nervous for security reasons. I ended up paying him 150% the agreed upon rate via Paypal on his wifi hotspot. While I was paying him, he said "also there is an additional fee for using paypal." He had already raised the rate. Then when I got to the screen where one selects "friends/family/gift" or "commercial" he told me "choose gift/friends/family." That way he could avoid having to pay any fees. When we returned the hotel I went and found the Tensing Pen employee and told her what happened. She said "Oh no. I'll talk to them." I told her to please make sure she did not recommend this vendor to future guests. She did not respond to me. She then never followed back up with me. Bottom line I do not trust this hotel and their practices and I cannot recommend it to other travelers. They do not care about the safety of their guests.
