beautiful grounds, spa facility needs a touch up We booked spa appointments. we were not staying at the hotel. we had lunch inside the restaurant which was nice. I had a pedicure inside the spa that was overpriced. Nice therapist, manicure however; the location in the spa was less than superior. there was significant dust o the artwork hanging on the wall and the walls could use a touch up. the pedicure chairs are really comfortable they could use a vibrating massage or be able to recline. The bathrobes were nice and comfy. I think for the price the pedicure should have warm stone massage. the grounds were beautiful near the water.

Loved this hotel ... can't wait to go back We just returned from a wonderful 5 night stay at this property. After reading all of the previous negative reviews, I was a bit skeptical and didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised with our stay. We are platinum elite and were upgraded to a Marina suite in advance of our stay. While we were not expecting this, it was a wonderful surprise. The room was fantastic. It was directly by the water with a walk out to the pool. The suite was two floors with a full kitchen, living room, two bedrooms and two balconies. It was exceptionally clean and well laid out with nice furnishings. The rocking chairs on the balcony were a treat and my go to spot every morning to watch the boats come in. The pool at the Marina is for Marina guests only so it was never busy. There is also a fire pit, and pool table. The hotel also did a great job of keeping towels well stocked by the pool. While we didn't use housekeeping all that much during our stay (COVID), we did see them out servicing other rooms and they were quite efficient. One thing to know about the suites is that they are down a few flights of stairs so if you have issues with stairs (no elevator available) this is not the right room type for you. We also chose to move our luggage on our own, however there was an attendant to assist with bags if needed. The main hotel is a beautiful bit of history. This historic hotel is well maintained, especially when compared to others of the same type which are not as nicely maintained (i.e.: Sagamore or Gideon Putnam). The staff are always working and maintaining the grounds. I didn't use the spa, however it looked beautiful. The indoor pool is also nice and was not packed. The best part of this hotel are the beautiful views looking over the water. It is a very relaxing feel and only 10 minutes from Portsmouth. I can't wait to come back.

Dog Friendly? Hahaha ha. NO WAY. This is about the doggie policy at the Wentworth. 'Friendly' it isn't. Start with the fees. Like other Marriots, a $150 per stay as soon as Fido crosses the threshold. Add to that a $20 daily extra cleaning fee; largely a ruse, as no special cleaning is usually done, don't believe expected denials. But easily the most troublesome aspect of staying with a dog, and the most unfair to dog owners, is the restaurant policy. There are two restaurants: Salt and Latitudes. Salt, the hotel's main restaurant, uses an outside narrow balcony, the only outdoor dining Salt offers. Yet, here's the kicker. The relativey few tables are available to all hotel guests, and the tables are generally taken by people without dogs. So, if you show up with a dog, you may not eat for a while. (I suggest the hotel always keep two tables reserved for dog owners.) The situation is even more troubling at Latitudes. Here there are two decks with wonderful views of the marina, as well as a small area with 4 tables and no view. The only 'pet friendly' area is the last one, but again, folks without pets can claim these tables. We waited over an hour while the hostess left one table empty as she said a large party was coming. If it's 'first come, first serve,' as they say it is, and we are there and they aren't, why should we wait interminably? It appears one can reserve a table and leave and then show up when it's convenient. Meanwhile people who do show up, with dog in tow, they wait, and wait, and wait. Were Marriot to decide to do so, this property could be a 4-star gem. Right now, it's a terrible misuse of a historic treasure. 3 stars is actually generous. PS, I forget to mention that one cannot leave a dog in the room unattended, so it is impossible to eat in other than two areas.

A New Hampshire Treasure I have been wanting to stay at this hotel for years and it did not disappoint. We were only here for one night and I was sad to leave. First off, the hotel itself is beautiful. The lobby and all the public spaces are stunning. Our room was a king one bedroom suite with two full bathrooms on the fourth floor overlooking the water and the front of the hotel. The view was spectacular. One tip: the pullout sofa is a single. It worked out fine for us, but would not work for a family of four. The pool area was pleasant. I was originally worried that it would be too busy because it was a weekend in the summer. Not at all. There were certainly plenty of families at the pool, but there was no problem getting chairs and umbrellas. The pool service staff were very attentive. The food at the pool bar was delicious. I recommend the lobster roll. For dinner we stayed on property and ate at Salt. Lots of seafood options and once again, I was not disappointed! I cannot wait to return and possibly try the spa on my next visit.

Not at the level it should be at I hated to give this hotel a 3 but decided to give some honest feedback. We are frequent travelers and have been to the Wentworth before (pre covid) We went on this trip to celebrate a special occasion and are well aware that there are staffing issues due to Covid. It was definitely evident here that a lot of the staff are inexperienced and don’t have the customer service training that one would expect from this level of hotel. Now that we have left I think in retrospect I would have saved all the points I used here and stayed in downtown Portsmouth. There were a few employees who did go out of there way to provide a great level of service. Liz in the Elite breakfast buffet area, Matt at the pool and Steve the bellman. My advice is either wait until after covid to visit here or go with a pretty low expectation level so you will not be disappointed.
