Nice but Seen Better Days Stayed here recently and found it to be a very mixed bag. In general it feels like this was probably the hottest place like 10 years ago and while it's maintained many of the nicer elements, the vibe feels a bit dated and occasionally depressing. Firstly, there really isn't a lobby to speak of. It's a small area by the elevators on the ground floor with a white "cube" in the middle where the front desk agents check you in. It becomes very confusing when there are more than two parties checking in. A few couches are nearby but it's very much lacking that central lobby area of most hotels. The restaurant and bar are located underground in the basement. They were fine but obviously no natural light. This would be fine for like a cool nighttime speakeasy but having breakfast or lunch in a basement isn't really an ideal setting. This is an odd choice given that they have a beautiful restaurant and bar on the second floor, which is seemingly abandoned, save for a few corporate events. This space offers a lot of natural light (absent everywhere else in the hotel's public areas). Our room was fantastic. Was upgraded from a premier room to a loft suite, which was immensely spacious. However, to get from the lobby to this room requires a through the aforementioned abandoned second floor to the elevators for a second tower, which always just feels like a vaguely confusing endeavor since you can't help but wonder the hotel feels so lifeless. Where the hotel really suffered was with the service. Check in was fine but beyond that we had trouble getting cups sent to the room one night "we don't have glasses and room service is closed." Often it was impossible to get an answer on the phone, sometimes just "we're busy right now, please call again later," other times we'd just get voicemail for someone named Maria? The shades in our room didn't open and it still wasn't fixed after multiple requests over two days. We ordered DoorDash one night and overworked front desk worker called to inform us, saying he would normally bring it up but he was the only person working in the hotel so we'd have to come down. In all the room itself was nice, but if you're looking for a hotel that offers you the feeling and service of staying in a luxury hotel, this might not be it.

The Best Hotel Staff I Have Ever Encountered Before I write anything else: the service at the Andaz 5th Avenue is absolutely the best experience I have ever had in a hotel. My partner and I travel around the world regularly and to NYC to visit relatives 2x/yr. We tried other hotels in the passed and ultimately chose the Andaz because they have treated us so well and the proximity to my relatives. If you travel to NYC on a regular basis, this is the hotel you want to stay at. They get to know you fast, remember you and watch out for you. This last visit, I walked in after landing at JFK and saw someone at reception I recognized and we literally hugged each other and caught up. When you stay here regularly or even semi-regularly, you absolutely feel like this is your second home. I cannot speak more highly of Sherab at the front desk. She will remember your name, why you visit, ask that you call or email her the next time you visit to ensure your room is ready for you and try to allocate you the best room possible. Justyna and Heather are just as good. They, too, remembered us and we chatted at breakfast each morning as friends rather than patrons. We checked-out and went to JFK on different flights. My partner's flight departed, mine was canceled. I took a car back to the Andaz, walked in and Clay, also a wonderful asset, at the front desk looked at me and immediately said "Welcome back, Mr....." without me having said nothing at that point. The staff at the Andaz 5th Avenue are highly intuitive, just as you would expect from a 5* hotel, but they go above and beyond. Way beyond to the point where my partner and I bought flowers for Sherab as a thank you toward the end of our stay for making us feel at home. Aside from amazing reception and service, the rooms are well appointed and quiet; you don't hear any of the traffic on 5th Ave. The location is great: you're just a couple blocks away from Grand Central, subways, Times Square, Bryant Park, and Rockefeller Center and Central Park are easily walkable. You really can't ask for more with this hotel. And I can confidently say, without reservation, you will not regret staying at the Andaz 5th Ave!

Great weekend getaway at the Andaz on 5th! We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The location was perfect, across from the NY Public Library, down the street from Bryant Park & a 15 minute walk to Times Square/Theatre District. We had a corner room that was spacious & bright, The bathroom was large & modern. I'm picky about my bathrooms & give it a 10. I liked the extra touches of complimentary water, sodas, chips & chocolate. The front desk staff were helpful & nice. The only negative was no coffee maker in the room, there was coffee downstairs but it was just ok. So Andaz staff, if you read this review HINT HINT! Otherwise I highly recommend this hotel!

Casual Luxury in NYC Stayed here only one night but thoroughly enjoyed the immaculately clean and sleek Andaz Suite. The staff is friendly and competent without being obsequious, and the lobby is small but lux. It's a perfect midtown location that's walkable to the theater district and Koreatown. We'll stay here again!
