Well located to the madding crowd of NYC While we were given a room with a king bed, it was not the room type we selected that featured a fireplace. Me thinks the hotels should be more conscientious about reservations made through hotels.com to honor the room-types and features selected. The location is quite nice at the corner of 6th and 45th (not between 7th & 8th as indicated on the hotesl.com website, and easily accessed if there's no road closures for parades preventing cabs from getting there, but of course that's nothing within the hotel's control. For some reason the steps leading into the hotel are favored by non-guests (young punks and general riff-raff), presumably because no one sends them away (?) which contributes to some difficulty getting in to the hotel. The staff are friendly and efficient, the rooms clean and sparely but sufficiently appointed and clean. Great air conditioning, and extra pillows; but I'd suggest something other than Pine-Sol for cleaning (Fabuloso?) as that scent is rather caustic, not universally appreciated, permeates the room for far too long and diminishes whatever ambiance or comfort the room could otherwise impart.

Nice stay in Manhattan We stayed for four days in the Saint James hotel. The location is very nice, and at a short walk distance from Times Square and all main attractions. The room is quite spacious, with no view. The building is quite old, and the walls are very slim, so it can get a bit noisy (the AC also made a bit of noise at night). The bathroom is spacious with a tub equipped with stream equipment (we did not have time to test). Beds are comfortable. The hotel does not offer amenities (closed bar in the lobby, no coffee or tea in the room), but the staff is very friendly and helpful.

A very good stay I know that we would all like to have coffee in the lobby and the room, but Hotel St. James makes it clear that it is a very good hotel but not with lots of frills. It does, however, have everything one needs. I appreciated the historic feel of the lobby area and the modern feel of the rooms. We were able to keep our bags in a separate room before and after our check in/out. Front desk personnel were friendly. Our room was basic but had everything one would expect in a hotel room - good bedding, good bathroom, clean, quiet, close to a good elevator. The location is excellent(!), as we were able to walk around the places we wanted to visit, near many subways and bus stops. The safety was a great plus, as well as how we heard absolutely nothing from our room either inside the building or out. Loved the Irish pub just a couple of shops away, especially after a long return walk from Central park. I would return to this hotel at another visit as well as recommend it.

Great little hotel ssshhh don’t tell people! My friend and I stayed here last October for 4 nights. We chose the hotel for a number of reasons but cost was a factor. We also wanted a room to share with 2 beds (we are close but not that close)! We wanted to be near Times Square just for ease in terms of things we planned. This hotel is not luxurious and doesn’t have lots of amenities but it also doesn’t have extra fees. No breakfast but there is a lovely deli place next door where loads of locals go so you know it’s good. You can sit outside and watch the world go by whilst munching on your bagel, fresh fruit etc. no bar but a great Irish bar just a few steps away which we may have spent a few hours in on Halloween night. The room wasn’t a bad size tbh we had 2 queen beds and storage space for all our shopping. Bathroom is basic but was perfectly fine for us. The location is great if you want to be near the theatre district and TSq. It felt safe and we had no issues walking around late at night early hours. The staff were lovely but especially mention for Joey who I chatted to before we arrived and was always quick to respond. When we arrived he greeted us like we were old friends and chatted to us everyday about our plans. He was always willing to help when we had queries and got us transport back to the airport at the end of trip at a good price. Thank you to him and hope to see Joey again next year when we return to the St James.

Great hotel We stayed here for 4 nights and were really pleased with the hotel. We had read some poor reviews before arriving and were a bit concerned, I think these people must have been staying in a different place. The location is brilliant, only a couple of minutes walk from Times Square. There’s a really good deli next door where you can purchase breakfast or lunch and a couple of doors away is Connely’s Irish bar that has a very extensive menu. Yes, the public areas may be a bit dated but you only walk through them. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, the bathroom is a bit small but perfectly adequate. The staff on the front desk were very helpful and gave us good directions to get to places. Don’t be put off by negative reviews, it’s a great little hotel.
