Stressful and not professional I will start with the positive- the location is brilliant, very close to everything and easy to find your way around yet on a quiet street so good for a quiet nights sleep. Now the unfortunate negatives- staff upon check in were not particularly friendly which would be welcomed after a long journey. I had already paid in full so they asked just for a card hold on incidentals £200- I hadn’t yet used my card and was told it had been declined, I checked my phone and the payment had gone through- I showed reception the evidence on my banking app and also the authorisation number- she firmly said it had been declined again, I asked for a receipt to pass to my bank and she said this couldn’t be provided either. I was pushed to provide other cards which I declined as I had evidence it had gone through and I didn’t want to keep authorising payments. As we were stopping for 3 days she let us into the room- providing no details on hotel amenities, location, check out or anything at all. The room was ok, definitely not 5 star at a push a 3 star. Very dated and a little worn out- we overlooked a back alley filled with rubbish. Only one dressing gown, no slippers, no shampoo, remote didn’t work, telephone for reception didn’t work. Pillow menus and books advertised are no where to be seen. Just all in all quite dissatisfied but we were only looking for a place to sleep so didn’t make a fuss. On the second day as we were out and about I had a notification that they had taken a further £100- I wasn’t even at the hotel and hadn’t authorised this payment so they simply and fraudulently just re ran my card. Upon return I explained this and they just shrugged there shoulders and told me to take it up with the manager the next day. When we finally came to check out I was told the £100 was re ran as they hadn’t got anything on file (evidence that they had was provided from the start) and it would be returned. Having spoken with my bank they informed me they needed in writing a list of things from the hotel- Mimoza on reception assured me it would be email across for me to send on to the bank. She has done no such thing so I have had to check out having left credit card on file they simply run by at there own discretion without authorisation. All in all not a pleasant hotel made worse by rude unhelpful staff luckily we had planned to change to a downtown hotel anyway so the whole trip hasn’t been ruined by this.

Great Midtown location & staff Had a fantastic stay at the Benjamin. The hotel is ideally located close to everything we wanted to see while in NY. Subway is close as were lots of good food and shopping options! FYI lots of construction in the area so not as picturesque so only con.

Aged, worn out place without basic facilities, heavily overpriced.Avoid it... Dingy, neglected house with tired and unfriendly staff. No restaurant and of course no room service. No minibar either. There is a small display in the (very small) lobby where they try to sell some miserable items that nobody buys. When entering the building one feels that a thorough cleaning is long overdue. All this at a fairly high price. At its present condition even 3 stars would be a compliment. Location is good....

Disappointing There is no restaurant here. We booked because we had stayed before and the National was a great buzzing bar/ restaurant . It is now closed down but the website did not highlight this and we didn’t know. There is no bar, no mini bars in rooms, no room service, no where to hang out. It’s just like a bedroom block with comfortable beds, good location, but tired and drab decor. Overall very disappointing this time.
