Do not stay here!!! Just checked out July 24, 2021 DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL, from someone that just checked out Saturday 7/24/21. We were greeted with protestors and cop cars when we arrived at the hotel. Apparently the construction union was protesting all of the costruction at the building. We were not made aware that it was going to be a complete construction zone. The Marriott website does not show or disclose any of this info. We were told upon arrival there was no restaurant or bars in the building and that we would have to be shuttled from one side of the building to the other in a mini van each day packed full of other guests. There's a make shift front lobby and an underwhelming pool. The pool doesn't come close to what the pictures made it look like. Right outside of our door were bulldozers and a huge dirt construction pit. We were woken up each morning by this heavy equipment around 7am. We called down to the front desk about pickleball courts near by and after 10 minutes were told she would look into it and never heard from the customer service attendant again. We've been on hold with marriott to explain our disappointment and after an hour they said they could only waive the resort fee. I would NOT recommend anyone stay here unless you want to be in a construction zone and not provided with the normal amenities and luxuries of a hotel. We came for a relaxing vacation and it was far from it.

Hotel under renovation, no previous warning We booked our vacation in this hotel hoping to get full amenities including food and beverage and pool. To our surprise, the hotel is undergoing a major renovation and most services are not available or simply reduced. There was no warning in the website and the price does not reflect the fact that this old facility feels more like a 3-star hotel. The room was smelly and the rug had dark spots. Hopefully, when the renovation is over, the hotel will return to its previous splendor, but in the meantime save your money.

Major Renovation June 2021 - Avoid til 2022 So I have stayed here many times and its location has always been a major reason to stay. Fashion Island near by and good restaurants around. Not to mentioned shuttles to the beach and bikes as part of the stay. The heart of this hotel is under construction and also its major pool area. I redeemed 190K of points for 2 room for my family on a 4 night stay. Instead of the stay I envisioned for my family we hot what I told the management as a Motel 8 experience. We were put in the old 1975 area of the property that they usually only use for overflow rooms. All these room have no hallways and are exposed to the outside like you typical Motel 8 experience. I asked before I came to have adjoining rooms for my family and when we arrive we were told that was not possible. One member of staff Elishia did finally try to help after 2 nights by trying to put us in the remaining tower which did have adjoining rooms. The problem with that is you have to either walk. 0.35 of a mile to access that tower or take a shuttle which is not a great option either. So new pro tip if you do stay here ask for the Motel 8 side instead of the tower since the self parking is at least close and convenient. Also the small pool and hot tub are good to have close. As the main pool and lap pool are closed. So if you are in the tower you have to hike 0.35 mile to get to the pool on the side walk. I am a lifetime platinum member for Marriott Rewards and I have never felt like nobody cared until I was here. I truly wish I would have moved to another property but we stuck it out mainly because we were playing at the beach so much. Their website when I booked did not say MAJOR RENOVATIONS are happening so I thought I would help you out.

Traveling MD If you’re coming to Newport Beach anytime soon, don’t stay here at the Marriott. They’ve closed the main building, and only the two sides are open; they’re doing renovation. It has been very difficult having Uber and Lyft pick us up and drop off, They have a shuttle from one side to the other for a new Lobby area. Coffee outside in the AM is OK; their pastry is bad...typical poor grocery muffin/croissants. Trying to get anything has been difficult. I had to ask three times by phone, and my roommate went to the front desk. I went to the front desk too, to again ask for toilet paper, have trash pick up, and fresh linens. In room coffee is a waste, if you like coffee. The Location is great, because it’s right across from Fashion Island, and you can get around to other places easily from this location. I have waited however up to an hour for Uber and Lyft a come sometimes. Paying the rate I have this week has not been worth my staying here.

Disappointing Stay If you have a Gluten/Celiac allergy DO NOT STAY HERE. We stayed at the Marriott in Newport Beach area for my best friends birthday and our anniversary. The first day we checked in the room had no A/C, so we had to rush and switched to another room—we had to be at my friend bday party at 1pm at the Peninsula—after rushing to find food prior and still needing to get ready. When we checked-in we were told their resturant and spa were not open due to renovations they were doing, but they had complimentary continental breakfast—this, if you have a gluten allergy is coffee only. However, I was told they would have a gluten free option, both days they did not. They had one gluten free granola option in their refrigerated section but only had milk—which if you have celiac disease—milk is no bueno. It’s shocking that in this day and age the Marriott is not more educated to have GF options for their guests. Luckily, there were restaurants across the street. That same evening when we came back to the room, our room smelled like sewage. At this point we were not going to pack up and try to move rooms again so we just dealt with the smell that night and the next—crossing the street throughout the following day to eat all our meals and avoid the stench of our room in order to have a good anniversary—which by the way, the Marriott never acknowledged—even though they were told when we called. For the price they charge—almost $300 a night w/tax—to not have their resturant, or spa open or even food for guests who have GF allergies, on top of daily construction—is a bit high. Personally, they should not charge more then $99-$150. My belated dad loved Marriott hotels, we would only stay at Marriott growing up as a child. I haven’t stayed in a Marriott in over 10yrs and this was definitely not what I remembered and very disappointing. What we did like, this hotel does have 3 pools—only one pool was accessible during our stay, but it was nice to see multiple pools on their grounds. Also, lots of palm trees and being across the street from Fashion Island—which has multiple great restaurants and shops was a plus.
