Great experience! Will be coming back! Great place to stay, for a night or for a week. Hot breakfast and coffee in the morning! Great staff and clean room. Will be staying again! It’s been a long time since I went to a hotel that still have served free continental breakfast and always had staff on hand to assistant with anything I need. Truly a wonderful stay!

Average place for an overnight stay It was average. Room was pretty clean, but caulking around the tub needs to be redone. Towels showed lots of wear. Pros: quiet and room has good curtains for keeping out light. Good a/c. Breakfast was average, included yogurt, but no fresh fruit.

Great place, peaceful and positive Very nice rooms, big and sunlit.. warm and positive feeling from the staff. I would come here again when in the city. Had a good restful time after a long day of work. Location is also good in terms of food options and convenience around. Thank you

Amazing customer service, but poor everything else The only reason I am giving a 2 is because the lady at the front desk was AMAZING. She was more than I could have asked for at a budget friendly place. She went above and beyond for us and tried to make the best of an awful situation. She honestly deserves a raise, or at the very least an opportunity to work at a location that isn't so run down. It is obvious she cares very much so for the facility and I am unsure why it is so run down. Hopefully she is given a better budget and better resources to properly run this location. I forget her name because it was so unique, but she is someone this company should not let go of. She is definitely a keeper!!!. The rooms are ok for what you pay for, but my daughter opened the door to the adult sleeping area and the handle on her side fell off. The elevator had a not so great smell that an attempt was made to cover up. The bathroom and the pool area were not very clean either. Clearly a hot tub used to be there that is no longer there. The patio chairs are not something we were willing to sit on. There was a couple having a domestic in the room next to us and our whole floor smelled like weed. I understand that it has been decriminalized, but there is a very clear no smoking policy and it's not very family friendly to have that smell lingering everywhere you go. We switched hotels within 3 hours.

Not your typical Country Inn and Suites If you like to stay at a Country Inn and Suites because you have an idea of what to expect, this hotel is the exception. When it was first built, it was probably a low-end version of the brand. And, this hotel has not been well maintained. We visited during a very busy weekend in the Newport News area and felt lucky to have scored a pet-friendly room with 2 beds. When we arrived, we made the best of the situation, but the room was definitely underwhelming and overpriced. Here are the good points: -Our Room (2 Queen suite) was spacious. Sheets and towels were clean, and the mattresses were comfortable. A/C worked and we were able to stay comfortable during our stay. -It seems like management is trying to update the hotel - specifically enjoyed the fact that the hallway carpet has been replaced with regular flooring. -Breakfast was on par with what you would expect from this type of hotel, and I especially enjoyed the eggs. The worker kept items stocked and the area seemed clean. -The young lady at the front desk was wonderful - she remembered my name and used it when she greeted me. -Sufficient parking and restaurants and other amenities were only a short drive away. -We had our four-legged family member and there were areas where we could walk. Now for the negatives: -This is the first room I've stayed in that had not just a dip in the floor, but at least a 4 inch decline in the middle of the living area. More surprising - we were on the 2nd floor. -All appliances and furniture were dated and had not aged well. The couch was some kind of old pleather and the side chair had holes and stains. For the last night, we had to use the sofa bed and the mattress was dirty with multiple stains. -The bathroom and overall room had several areas (primarily corners and around the doors) that were dirty and needed not just cleaning but patching up. -All carpeting that was remaining (room, stairs) was nasty and needs to be replaced (preferably with flooring similar to the halls). -The walls are paper thin. Not sure who was in the room next to us, but it sounded like a family of 20 holding an all-night party. -As mentioned in a previous review, the stairway external door near the pool needs work. It does not close on its own (there is damage on the doorjamb), which creates some concerns about safety - it also allows smoke to come into the hotel (from folks smoking near the door). -The hotel only has one elevator - and it feels like you are taking your life in your hands every time you take it (thus why we took the stairs most of the time). If the management continues to make renovations and improvements, this should be an adequate place to stay in Newport News. In the meantime, it's not a terrible place to stay, but you should be aware of what you are getting into.
