Filthy guest room but friendly staff I really wanted to love the Prince of Wales. Unfortunately the condition of our guest room was completely unacceptable. Large black mould stains on the ceiling, stains on the carpet and walls, peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, a dilapidated sofa etc (see photos). I was going to write to the General Manager but I can't imagine them not knowing about these things. It's a shame because the staff here are wonderful and the location is great. This should be a jewel in Niagara on the Lake. Instead it makes me wonder about the cleanliness / maintenance of areas I can't see (like the kitchen).

A Posh and Ultra-Central Base for Exploring Niagara-on-the-Lake On our first trip to NOTL, in 2019, we had to stay at a modern motel a half-hour's drive away. For our 2024 trip, we were more proactive and booked a stay at The Prince of Wales Hotel. It ain't cheap, but you get a lot for your money, starting with a comfortable room (we were upgraded to a suite) on the first floor (sparing us or staff the challenge of hauling luggage to an upper floor) and continuing to a convenient parking lot (valet available if it's crowded) and a charming indoor pool. And the location, right in the center of the historic district, can't be beat -- we could walk to both of the principal Shaw Festival venues and most restaurants. Staff -- and there seemed to be a lot of them -- were uniformly pleasant and helpful. The hotel's main restaurant -- Noble -- is well-regarded, but check out the short menu before making a reservation; the hotel's Churchill Lounge offers (mostly) lighter fare, a handsome bar, and flower-bedecked outdoor seating along King and Picton Streets. And for a hotel that was established in 1864, it's a surprisingly solid edifice -- not a creaking floorboard in the place. If you're thinking about taking in a play or two or more at NOTL's annual Shaw Festival, plan well ahead and reserve lodgings at The Prince of Wales. You won't be disappointed.

A trip back in time When entering the Prince of Wales you step back in time, marveling at classic British colonial architecture that firmly complements the bespoke aura of Niagara-on-the-Lake. The hotel splits in to various sections (tea rooms, dining room and bar), which all have a unique style. The premises are clean, well-presented and staff are very attentive. The rooms continue the theme the hotel seeks to impose. We were very satisfied with the quality of linens and the overall structure. Our only note to management would be the somewhat noisy air conditioners. We treated these as part of the « vintage » experience, yet some travelers may find them a nuisance. Best bit: although we did not dine at the hotel we did treat ourselves to the breakfast. This was arguably the best breakfast experience we had in Canada, from the attitude of staff to the quality of products on offer. We invite future guests to give it a try. Overall: would choose again for a stay in the area.

Good meal in great surroundings We popped in for lunch and was very glad we did. The hotel is great to wander around and has beautiful period furnishings. Fabulous stained glass! The meal was the best we had while staying in Toronto. Their Asian take on Poutine was original and very tasty.
