Comfortable and affordable I booked a room here for a solo weekend trip to visit my son who is currently stationed at Camp Pendleton. I was very nervous after seeing the reviews. People seemed to either love it or hate it. I am happy with my experience there. Is it luxurious? No. But that’s not what I was looking for. I was looking for affordable and comfortable and this was both. Room was clean, staff was friendly and I felt safe. The deposit was no big deal. I paid $200 in cash at checkin and received $200 in cash at checkout. Took about 2 minutes to get checked out. It is conveniently located near where the shuttle dropped my son off, which made it so easy to meet up with him. The room had everything I needed - coffeemaker/coffee, hairdryer, fridge, sink, etc. Other visitors were families, couples, of all ages. Everyone I met was pleasant. I have no complaints and would recommend this hotel for a budget-friendly choice in Oceanside.

Affordable and comfortable I felt compelled to write a review of this hotel after booking it for a solo trip and being very nervous based on the reviews that I saw. I was visiting Oceanside solo to see my son who is currently in training at Camp Pendleton. The rate was very reasonable. The room was clean, I felt safe, and the staff was friendly. It was very conveniently located near where the shuttle dropped my son off for liberty. Is it luxurious? No. But that’s not what I needed. I had no problem with the deposit. I paid $200 cash at check in and received $200 cash at checkout. It is a little older, and you can tell that when you look closely, but it was comfortable, affordable and offered just what I needed. I would definitely stay there again.

My Go To Spot in Oceanside The Hotel Oceanside aka THO is a small, boutique and very reasonably priced hotel in Oceanside. I stayed there on business in 2023 and have made it my go to place to stay whenever I'm in Oceanside (which is often). The rooms have always been clean and the staff cordial and friendly with me. In fact, I've had many engaging conversations with front desk personnel (shout out to Joshua!) and Jennifer (one of the owners). What about that 200 dollar deposit that seems to be a sticky point for folks? I asked about it on my first visit (I read about it on the reservation site before booking, so I was not surprised by it). The young lady at the front desk explained why it was implemented including sharing stories of patrons who lacked what I call 'hotel etiquette' treating the rooms as personal party pits (my description) and threatening the front desk workers issues of room damaged were brought up. As I mentioned, THO is a small, boutique hotel. It is not part of a major chain and consequently does not have the infrastructure and personnel power of a large brand hotel. That said, the cleaning staff I've witnessed works hard to keep the hotel and rooms clean. Besides, I like the intimate vibe THO offers. Feels more personal and homey. I've seen a lot of negative reviews of the hotel on this and other sites, and while each experience is personal, I hope you'll give thought to this review and consider giving The Hotel Oceanside a chance it deserves. Thanks for reading and safe travels!

Surprise you don't want This was the most misleading place I ever stayed. They say suites but it's more like an Inn. Our room did not have half the stuff they said it would and when we asked front desk about, they never got back to us. The microwave is hidden in the cleaning closet. The building and room had an old smell to it. The pool is only a kid size one. Then they hit us with unexpected charges that seemed to vary per guest. Cause several of us was at the front desk asking about it and we didn't even know each other.

Too many hassle free local hotels to stay at in Oceanside. This isn't one of them. A $200 cash damage deposit at check in looks suspicious. No hotel, locally, does this. Some local hotels charge a damage deposit (usually $150) to a credit card and it's considered ''pending,'' then cleared at checkout. A cash deposit means a customer cannot dispute this charge if the hotel decides to keep the $200 deposit. (Unlike a credit charge that can be disputed through the credit card company). When I checked in, a $200 damage deposit was made to my credit card. I questioned the policy and asked when and how a refund would be made. The front desk clerk told me the charge would be ''pending'' and not a charge to my card, and the deposit would be ''refunded or cleared'' at checkout. At checkout, I was told the deposit was charged to my credit card and it would be refunded -- front desk did not know when that would be. Front desk would not give me a receipt. It took about 5 days for the refund to clear my credit card. Unacceptable. Best Western, next door, does NOT require a damage deposit. After reading reviews of The Hotel Oceanside, the ''cash'' policy looks like a scam. There is no recourse for a refund of the $200 cash deposit and totally at the owners discretion on when and how to return the money. Today, the front desk told me I needed to speak with the manager about hotel policy regarding a ''service animal'' at time of check in. Because accepting a service animal is at the discretion of the owner, at check in, it's possible that a customer can be turned away, after making a reservation. The hotel would still have the customer's credit card number and can charge for a night's stay if a cancellation is made by the customer -- or if the hotel has discriminated against the customer for whatever reason. I've never heard of a customer, with a reservation, being turned away for ''attitude,'' but at least some customers here have been. I've stayed at Best Western and it's a nicer hotel, and has acceptable policies regarding how a damage charge would be addressed (they would have a customer's credit card number through the reservation process) as is customary with how hotels address a potential problem. Avoid being taken advantage of and stay clear of The Hotel Oceanside. The unprofessionalism being displayed here is a deal breaker for me. This is not a happy place and potential for problems are enormous.
