Pleasantly surprised! Stayed for 11 nights and was pleasantly surprised how amazing the place was! Having stayed at the Hard Rock and Portofino hotels on site previously, I was worried that this would be a bit of a step down but I was so wrong! In fact, it was better! So many facilities including the wonderful lazy river, plenty of places to eat, pool open really late. We had a volcano view room in the Bayside tower and it was brilliant. View was outstanding. Only possible negative which is the same every place I stay - never enough hangers in the wardrobe! How on earth they think you can get away with just 5 for 2 people is beyond me. I asked them to send 20 more to the room but they refused saying we could only have 10. Was a bit disappointed because it was still not enough but we just had to get on with it. Other than that, perfect!

BED BUGS AT CABANA BAY Checked in at 8pm at Cabana Bay on 9/14 - 1st Room - 6538 - room is filthy with crumbs on the floor and IN the bed under the sheets, and various other items on the floor like a dime and button. Just to show you how badly they clean there. I went down to the front desk, told them of the problems and showed them the photos I took, they said someone was going up there right now to clean it. I go to eat for an hour and then go back up to the room, which by the way is the furthest room possible basically so the walk takes forever to go back and forth for these troubles. I see the button sticking out the door and I knew no one came to clean. I go all the way back to the front desk, I said no one came to clean when they said they would and I wanted to switch hotels. They called a couple of other hotels and they were booked full, the manager convinced me to stay when they offered me the first night comped since it was 11pm basically now and they found a family suite that someone checked out of today so it was thoroughly inspected and cleaned. I accepted that and that was the worst mistake of my life. 2nd Room - 4174 - I smell something gross as soon as I walk in the room and I see the microwave blinking and I can see something inside. I open it and it is a burrito inside, like I said, they don't clean here! I pick it up and go throw it in the trash outside, this is floor 1 by the way. There was also a random bracelet on the bathroom, no checks are done here. The staff must do the absolute least. We checked the beds and everything like usual and I deemed it safe enough though. We get in bed to go to sleep at 1:40am, at 3:27am I woken up being BITTEN BY A BED BUG ON MY FACE! I immediately scream and tell my husband "BED BUG! BED BUG! BED BUG!" and pull off the sheets, we slept in 2 separate beds and he pulls off his sheets and there are several in BOTH beds. We were both freaking out and having a panic attack, this is the absolute worst thing that could ever happen at a hotel and it finally happened to me. We then have to proceed to check ourselves, our luggage, our backpacks, the stuff we just had on hanging in the closet. This took forever, we get to the front desk at 5am tell them the whole situation, they send someone down to take pictures of bed bug from my phone screen and pictures of the bites on my face. They refunded me the room for night (which  was already done before the bed bug problem) and canceled the rest of my stay which was for 7 nights because obviously I needed to leave. That is all they offer you, no further compensation for this traumatic experience. I then paid a lot more money to then go stay at a different Loews hotel on property. They called me a couple of days later and said their "3rd party pest control" tested the room and found no bed bugs, even though I have the bites, the photos and videos. We live in a clown world. I just called the Loews customer service manager. I was on the phone with them for an hour and a half and emailed them the photos and videos. What did they offer me? Universal's compensation for my traumatic experience is an express pass good for 4 rides. That is how high they hold their standards of cleanliness and safety of hotel rooms and that is what you are worth to them. Nothing.

Kids LOVED it and were very sad to leave. World’s best staff! This was a great value. The design is fun and kitschy. We had a suite and it was a very nice room for the price. The kids loved the sliding door and the pull out couch, but the pool with the slide was their favorite part of the resort. There were minor issues with the room, but all were fixed promptly. They provided a bus that ran often and it was a short ride. The staff was warm, kind, thoughtful and they went out of their way to be helpful. Pros: Kids loved everything, location is great, staff is amazing and it’s fun Cons: To me, it’s more for kids than adults, but I saw plenty of happy adults there. It’s a little bare bones, but you get what you pay for so maybe it isn’t really a con.

Great fun This is more than a hotel, it's a resort in itself with two swimming pools, two hot tubs, a lazy river, three bars, 10pin bowling lanes, a food court, launderettes and a souvenir shop. I wasn't sure what to expect but wasn't expecting it to be so big. My wife reckoned to do 1000 steps between our room (at the far end of Americana) to the Bay Resort restaurant. The 50s theme is very well done, from the piped music to the graphics, but not the prices. While we were there the maintenance crews were painting the hotel and the gardeners were putting down more mulch so I don't recognise any criticisms of the hotel looking shabby, because it wasn't. Our room was at the back of the building, on the 7th floor. It had two double beds, which was adequate for us. It was quiet as we had a view of Universal Volcano Bay and I4! I can see how rooms that overlook the pools could get noisy. We did struggle to get hot water out of our tap/faucet at night and thought the air conditioning in the building was a bit fierce. Perhaps it's to encourage people to put some clothes on instead of staying in swimming costumes? The staff were universally lovely and the management deserve credit for making keeping such a big resort running smoothly look effortless. Selling rings for the lazy river was a bit of a cheek. I'd have happily paid $5 a day to hire a ring and they might have made more money overall. Then I wouldn't have to take it home and possibly never use it again.
