Great location, wonderful service and a much better than usual breakfast As a restored (huge) home, it transports you back in time with beautifully restored furniture, an old billiards table, and three levels of public rooms to watch the ocean. Perhaps the best surprise was the service, which was excellent from check-in to the fantastic breakfast service.

Wonderful central location for your Monterrey visit. Wonderful, quaint old building in a perfect location with wonderful views of the ocean. Easy walking distance to lovers point and cannery row. Great breakfasts and nice evening snack and wines. Plenty of parking in the area. Not a party hotel, but a wonderful place to take root on your vacation to Monterrey.

RUNDOWN AND OVERPRICED We paid $360.00 to stay in the Empire Room at Fireside. The picture of the room was lovely - this was supposed to be a special treat - reality was far different. First off the property is located in probably one of the most beautiful areas in the US. Second the staff was lovely and helpful - they provided us a key to the handicapped entrance - because of all the stairs. if you are stair challenged this is not the Inn for you. The courtyard could be lovely but the gardens are unkempt - patio hadn't been swept, ferns were brown - quite sad looking for an area that is abundant with flowers. The carpeting up to the room was worn and threadbare - and then we opened the door - we have stayed in vintage hotels many times but this room looked old, tired, musty and need of repair. (1) The refrigerator was a small box on the floor with a worn seal which we had to put a door stop in front to keep it closed. (2) The drapes did not fully close and there was a large paint stain along the bottom of the drape. (3) The door on the armoire fell off it's hinge upon opening. (4) Had to unscrew both light bulbs from bed side lamp as the switch did not work. (5) There was an old broken down RV sitting outside our window. The bed was comfortable and we did get a good nights rest - we skipped the breakfast as our expectations were pretty low by this point. This property must have been something years back but the upkeep is not due to being shut down for COVID - this property has been run down for some time. Had we not paid nearly $400.00 I would have just let it be and move on - bad rooms happen - we travel a lot and are fairly flexible - but the condition of our room and the amount paid is egregious.

Do NOT stay here!!!!! Whatever you do, do NOT stay here! Service was horrible and staff was extremely rude! Paid 35 extra dollars for a so-called rollaway bed and what we really got was a dirty mat on the floor!!!! When questioned staff about the dirty mat I was told to take it or leave in those words! I have never been treated this way ever buy a hotel or bed-and-breakfast.

Great Views! The Martine Inn is in a great location in Pacific Grove with water views from the dining room. It is full of antiques, which is fun. They served a wonderful, cooked-to-order breakfast, which was a nice contrast to most places that have a grab and go if they have anything.
