No incoming phone service I tried 3 times on 6/25 to call front desk….rang multiple times each attempt….no answer, not even voice mail. Marriott must have cut off the phone service and front desk help before acquisition. My son who lives locally had same experience. We lived in PA when this was built…….disappointed in service

Go somewhere else Nothing really wrong with it, if you just need a place to sleep for a night. Otherwise, avoid it. It’s very noisy- you can hear everyone in rooms around you and above you. Driving in and out is a pain at best. Parking is expensive. There’s a train track right behind the hotel, so avoid sleeping on that side of the building.

Great Hotel close to everything you need. Awesome Hotel and location. The rooms are so nice and comfortable. Beds are very comfortable. Internet works very fast. Bathrooms are nice with walk in shower. Hotel is next to Cal Train station to take you into San Francisco. Lots of restaurants and bars walking distance. Hotel staff is the best. They take very good care of the customer. Highly Recommend. Worth the money to stay here.

Unprofessional staff We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. I came to work at a lab at Stanford, and brought my family with me. We got a studio with a kitchen thinking we would cook during this stay since we had been eating out every day for last couple of weeks. We went grocery shopping before check-in, with lots of food to be put in the refrigerator. We arrived at 3:40pm and was told that the room wasn't ready. "It's not a big deal" I said, thinking we could wait for 15-20min. Then we were told that we would need to wait for an hour. The front desk personnel told us that Marriott had this special late check-out program for Platinum members, and the family who stayed in our room checked out late. I'm only Marriott Gold, and thinking that there was no point of arguing, we took a walk in downtown, and came back after an hour. Then we were told they needed one more hour. Then the same personnel again explained about the Platinum member's special late check out. I said, "The late check out is the promise made by Marriot to the other guest. Marriott promised me that I could check in by 3pm. Why do I and my family need to suffer because of your promise to someone else we don't even know? Also, does Marriott think that it's okay to offer such special program to a guest at another guest’s expense? I'm paying over $300 per night for the room starting 3pm today." Then the personnel offered $10 parking voucher. I told him I wasn't interested. Then he offered $30 at the hotel restaurant, I told him I wasn't interested. Then 25% discount, I wasn't interested. At that point, I thought that the whole thing was so stupid and unprofessional, and I had to do something for my family who was hungry and tired. It was already 5pm. Our food were still in the car. So I asked him to cover the entire dinner bill at the hotel restaurant. Then he offered 50%. We ended up eating $60 worth of food, and the hotel charged us $30. With $10 tip, we ended up paying $40 for the food we didn't even want. When we got the call from the hotel when the room was ready, it was almost 6pm. I will do my best to avoid this hotel. There are many options if you are willing to drive 5min or so from Stanford.

Location Is The Only Nice Thing About This Hotel I visited this hotel for a 2-night stay in February 2021 while I helped my daughter move herself from one dorm room to another at school. I stayed in the area 2 other times in the previous 6 months, which were both at the Courtyard Marriott in Los Altos, which is about a 12-minute drive down the road. I decided to stay closer to the school this time because the price of both hotels was about the same and I was curious to see if it would be worth it in the future to pay the higher price in order to be closer to the school. Short answer, the Sheraton is not going to be worth the extra money most of the time. Long answer, the Sheraton is a dated and dirty hotel that gets away with charging high prices because of its close proximity to Stanford and downtown. Sometimes location is worth a higher cost, and sometimes it’s not. The 12-minute drive to the other hotel really isn’t that bad, but there have been times when I needed to drive back and forth to the school multiple times a day, and that 24-minute round trip starts to add up. Right now, the Sheraton Palo Alto is about $7/night more expensive, but it’s usually about $100/night more expensive (or more). The Sheraton also charges $10/day for parking, while the Courtyard Marriott gives you free parking. My particular room hadn’t been well cleaned. It’s possible it had just been a while since anyone stayed in that room, but given the extra cleaning most hotels are doing during the pandemic, this hotel was the absolute worst. There was dust everywhere, there were old hair pins on the floor, and there was residue from old food or something sticky having been halfheartedly wiped from the counters. There is no microwave in this hotel. There’s nowhere to hang towels in the bathroom, they keep them stacked in a niche that is located INSIDE the shower, and when you need to hang them for reuse later, there is nowhere to do so. There’s also nowhere to hang the hand towel. There’s really poor lighting in both the bathroom, and the room itself. The water pressure in the shower is terrible. If you have any amount of thick hair that requires a bit more water pressure to get it wet all the way through, forget that in these showers. The water also took a while to get hot, and the showerhead and controls for turning it on are on the opposite side as the entrance, meaning you have to step inside the shower to turn the water on, risking getting sprayed before you know the temperature of the water. There are chips all over the wood doors, like they’ve been hit by a lot of suitcases and maid carts over the years. It doesn’t affect the way they function, but adds to things looking really run down. There are laundry facilities on the 1st floor. It costs $1.50 to use the washer, $1.00 to use the dryer. They have detergent for sale, but I didn’t catch the price. I didn’t use the washer because I couldn’t it until the day I left. The hotel is hard to navigate, there are a lot of different buildings and hallways. The front desk person was really friendly, but he spent a lot of time telling me what a great deal I got on the room and that they usually charge several hundred dollars more per night than I paid, then proceeded to tell me that most people who come there have business with big tech corporations, or students at Stanford. He was probably just trying to give me info about the area that he thought I might find interesting, but I was a little offended that he assumed I was staying there only because it was cheap, without realizing that I was there for one of those reasons as well. I kind of got the feeling that he thought I didn’t look like someone who could afford such an expensive hotel under normal circumstances, and was trying to impress me. That being said, I would stay here again, under 2 circumstances. 1: If the price was the same as the Courtyard and I was staying for 3 nights or less, or 2: If I was visiting for a school function that would require me to drive back and forth to the school a lot. There are a lot of hotels to choose from in the area, but the Sheraton is one of the few (or only?) this close to the school, so you’re kind of captive to it if you care about the proximity. They get away with charging $450/night because they don’t have much competition, and it's a $450/night hotel in location only, but it is a far, far cry from a nice hotel. 3 stars at the most.
